It is so amazing to see what you can do to a plain bathroom that has been somewhat stade for a very long time. No money available for renovation and limited funds, but you want it to look great and exciting like something that you have seen in one of the home decorating magazines. What do you do? Where do you go? And what do you need to see in this room to excite you? Will you know it when you see it? Then, just think about it. What colors, combination of colors, textures and accessory items would excite you most. Now, this is the guest bathroom that you haven’t given much attention to in the past, but you now want to see this room come alive. Walking into HomeGoods was the absolute answer. I found these two shadow box pictures of brown horses. Then to the floral section I found this reddish brown peony plant with two beautiful flowers and arranged with the asian design. Finding shower curtains in the same color, with matching towels was magical. To cover the shower curtain bar, that can often be unexciting, I found a sheer curtain, a lighter hue then the shower curtains and draped them in a fashion that covered the bar, but gave magic to the room.

Tell me what you did to change your bath. Was it exciting? What did friends and family think when you finished?

1. I had to face an old bathroom which had to have the wallpaper removed and the grout filled in and cleaned. It is the old fashioned two shades of green and white tiled type, found in ranch style houses of old. My solution, to paint the darker green trim with a creamy white, add crown molding with a small border under it that had a pleasing shade of cream/green. This pulls the eye up when you look in rather than so much attention on the lower part.

It is a tiny bath, but now looks very clean and up-to-date, without being out of place for the style of the house.

I bleached the old grout, then filled in the missing spots. I used the creamy white on the molding, door, built-in towel rack and put up wide panel blinds in the same color. I did the ceiling in a glossy white. A new vanity, on sale, a pretty framed mirror and it now looks fresh and clean.
