Thought you might enjoy seeing a mirror I made for my powder room.. Just an inexpensive mirror I picked up at Lowes, I added the star fish with gorilla glue and waaaalahhh! I found the cute “beach” sign at HomeGoods, as well as the black star fish on the vanity. I was pleased with how it turned out!! I guess the same thing could be done with any type shell or even a mixture of varities.
It was fun!

1. Really cute mirror Alli. What a great idea. I’ve seen things like that That sell for hundreds of dollars down here at the beach. You should go into business. Send more ideas.

7. I love the mirror and the sign. I have seen the sign at a ‘ Linen and Things’ near my house. I want the sign badly but it is quite expensive still. Maybe I’ll find it at HomeGoods! I want to put it on my guest bedroom door.

8. Thanks for your nice comments Diane…..I have seen the sign at HomeGoods and I actually purchased mine there. It is on a hard board, rather than a true frame….I hope you find it soon!
Happy decorating!

9. Alli,
Again, I love your decorating style! I found a sign just like that at TJ Maxx that said OCean. I will post the picture of it. I ended up placing it above our bed along with an old antique window frame I found at a consignment shop. I love finding things and not really knowing where you are going to put them until you get them home. If you love it-buy it! You will find a place for it or the place will find you. Really cute mirror also. Chat with you soon.

10. Lynn,
Oh so true…..I am the same way, if I like it I buy it, and I know I will find a place for it somewhere……The trick is to buy it when you see it, or you will be disappointed when it is gone!
I love HomeGoods and TJ Maxx….can’t wait to see your photos!
Take care and Happy Shopping!

11. Dear Alli,
I absolutely love that mirror!!!! I have seen many shell mirrors at art shows and in gift shoppes around Venice florida..but they cost a bundle…check out a store in Venice Fla. called the Cat’s Meow..you wouldn’t believe how expensive some of their stuff is..I think they go to Homegoods store in Venice and buy some of their pieces and charge much more for them..but it is so much fun looking in that shoppe. How many starfish would you say it took to complete that mirror? Where did you get them from? Another great idea is to do something similar with wine corks on a wreath form and add greens grapes etc. I really would love to make a mirror for my foyer inmy new house in Florida..you have inspired me!!! Thanks, Margie

12. Hi Margie,
Thanks for your post….sounds like you and I could go shopping together at HomeGoods! I love to “look” in stores like you mentioned….and then find the treasures at HomeGoods!!!!
I would “guesstimate” that there are between 50 and 60 starfish on the mirror….I lucked up and foung a shell shop going out of business near my house, but I think you can “google” “shop for shells” and there are many even discount places to order on line. The thing is you would have to buy a large quanity, but maybe you could use some on a picture frame or a napkin ring, or to hold a curtain tieback……the possibilities are endless!!!! The ones I used are various sizes…starting with the larger ones of course and stacking the smaller ones in between…. It was so much FUN!!! I only ran in to one snag….be sure and measure to see how much room you have between your light fixture and the actual mirror…I almost lost a piece of one starfish……
I know exactly what you mean about the cost of shell mirrors….whew! that is why I decided to make my own…. The mirror was inexpensive and the frame is even plastic! This helps with the weight of the mirror after you apply the shells!
Again I am so thrilled that youare enjoying the site! Thanks again for your comments!

13. I love what you did with the mirror. We are doing something similar with shells.
I also love the candle holders. I’ve been trying to search the web for vase/candle holder, not sure how to describe them. Any ideas? Or if you wouldn’t mind sharing where you bought them that would be really great.
Thanks,
Brent
