I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get stuck, coming up with inspiration to design a room Where do you begin? Many times I go out to different stores and just walk and look at new colors, patterns, furnishings etc. Inspiration can come from the smallest things. On one such walk through a HomeGoods store, I was drawn to a piece of china, a beautiful plate with wonderful color and pattern. THATS IT ! And so, the room evolved around that one inspiration piece.
Anything can trigger creativity!

1. Great Comment!

Since Women are “Nestors”, (we want to “feather our nests” and make our house a home), we enjoy the shopping experience for so much more than just the goal of finding a particular item.

I love shopping at stores such as “Home Goods” for this very reason!
I also enjoy shopping in second-hand and Antique stores. I look at their displays of old things & get new ideas for uses I never thought of.

I find that “old becomes new” when stores such as “Home Goods” carry reproductions of classic styled ceramics, etc., and add new colors and uses as well!

Home Goods carries such a wonderful variety of fun styles and things… I can really spend a long time in there looking, getting ideas, and doing price research on what my new ideas will cost to implement.

I’ve found such wonderful items for special gifts there by using creativity and warching for sale items.

I love your store! I wish you had one in Whittier!!!

2. Hello Marie,

You live in my neck-of-the-woods… So. Cal. You are so right. We like to shop. The “chase” is as much fun as the “find”. It’s therapy for some. We just like to look and think and dream as we SHOP. It kicks in our creative side and thats relaxing for many.
You sound like a big fan of HomeGoods. Who isn’t. The draw is…you can decorate your home with such great furnishings and not pay a big price as you know.
I’m sorry there’s not a store in Whittier. There should be a few close to you in surrounding cities. Check the store locator on the website.
Hope you find some great things at Homegoods…it’s easy.
…so glad we could chat, write again soon.

3. Oh my…woman after my own heart!!! Sometimes I feel as though I am not being a good steward of my time when I aimlessley walk around stores. But, honestly when I don’t feel guilty about it, I really do feel inspired.
Lately, I have been drawn to antique stores. I love to look at all the things that remind me of my childhood.
Less than six months ago my mother past away. My sister and I spent a week in her home going through all the “stuff”.
Some of the stuff I brought back home with me. The rest sit in her house while the house sits on the market. I could kick myself for not renting a uhaul and bringing “all” the stuff back with me.
I keep thinking of all that I could have done with it.
Anyway, as I sit and read through your web site I am moved to tears. I feel so inspired and encouraged.
Thank you,
Jackie

4. Dear Jackie,

What wonderful and heartfelt thoughts you’ve contributed. My condolences to you and your family about your mother. Yes, it’s hard to go through all the “memories” left when someone you love is gone. I’ve been there a few times. You feel bad when you can’t take it all with you, but you know that’s not possible. So you take the things that mean the most and the other things will go to someone to make their homes happier…and the memories live on.
As for time wasted walking around stores, time is never wasted when you can be inspired by something. Think of “looking through stores” as additional education. You learn how designers use their abilities to enhance yours. If you come away enlightened and inspired then it’s an education… free of charge with no student loans to pay back.!!!

All the best to you Jackie, please visit again when you can.
