I take pictures of anything that might give me inspiration. Model homes are great places to get ideas.
I “pick the room apart” to fiqure out why it works so well. What design elements were used successfully and how they were used. In this room, I like the big round mirror, it makes a statement. It repeats its shape in the chair backs. The room is comfortable and cozy with the chocolate walls. The accessories are simply placed and not overdone. The dual chandeliers add the lighting a dark room needs for ambiance and mood. Good ideas are all around you, just look.

2. Hi Mercedes,
Sorry I don’t know the details. This was a room in a model home that I saw. It was a real dark chocolate color. The chair looks like a Parsons chair. Thats all I know about it. Good Luck.

4. Hi Crystal,
I hear ya! Decorating can be addicting especially when there are stores like HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls. You really can design a beautiful room and save tons of money shopping at these stores. I always go to these stores first when I have a decorating project to do. It just makes sense. Good luck on all of your decorating and tell your husband how much money you’re saving to make your home beautiful and stylish.

9. I am currently decorating my master bedroom in Chocolate and Antique Blue. I found a great bedding set at Home Goods from a company called Metro Hotel Collection. I cannot find the matching window panels, though I know they exist. It is driving me nuts! I can’t locate them in Home Goods or TJ Maxx, and have contacted major retailers and Googled the “brand” to death without success. Does anyone have any information about this manufacturer or seen it at a full or discount priced retailer? Of course, I’d love to find them at TJ or Home Goods…Thanks for everyones help.

10. Hi Kathleen,

I hope you can find your window panels. Maybe someone will write in if they come across them. Good Luck!

I know it’s been months and maybe you found your panels. If not, may I suggest the following. Purchase solid panels in either coordinating color. visit a drapery fabric store and find a print or strip that brings out the colors. have a long narrow pillow made for the bed to place in front of shams or pillow cases, whichever is the case. Then use the same coordinating fabric for a 4 – 6″ border along the bottom of the drapes just above the hem. it will tie everything together and give it a more custom look rather than everything exactly the same, appearing “off the rack” You’ll be surprised at the end result. It works beautifully

13. Hi Debi,

Great idea! I’ve seen this done a lot in model homes. Although their drapery is custom, the same idea can be applied to ready-made drapery.
I hope Kathleen will see your idea and help her with her decorating.
Check back on the blog site. I may write about your idea and show some pictures I’ve taken illustrating your thoughts.
Thanks so much for responding with a great idea for all of us.

14. I have yet to visit one of your stores but I see your commercials tonight and I will make a trip this weekend. My question is ,do you consult or have an in-store decorator that may travel within a 5 mile radius to assist the challenged decorator?

15. I would love to do a kitchen in black cabinets and yellow walls. I wouldn’t know what color to have the floor. I need the floor replaced anyway, that’s why I was thinking about what color would go wih the walls and cabinets. I saw this color in a home show once and the old kitche they did in the yellow and black looked like it was new!

17. Hello Lindy,

What an exciting kitchen this would be. Black cabinets and yellow walls.
With such strong colors, sometimes it’s nice to neutralize or “rest” the eye a little or go BOLD all the way.

A few ways you could go…
A medium to lighter wood floor (think Bamboo) would add some contrast to the black cabinets and warmth and richness to the kitchen. Also would blend well with the yellow walls.

If you wanted to go bold. Install a black and white check floor. Use a large square tile, 18″X18′ or larger if the room is big. Lots of drama and impact! Always a classic floor design.

If you want contrast. Install a cream tile or stone in a large size and installed it on the diagonal for interest. Beautiful againt black cabinets.

Any of these would work well. What have you considered?
It sounds exciting and fun. Let me know what you decide to do.

18. My room is not complete– still adding as I go. But I love the chocolate color we just painted. The closest HG is nearly two hours away, but lucky me — we are hitting it over Tgiving! Go with the chocolate paint- you won’t regret it!

19. Hi Tina,

WOW! what a beautiful room. Love the chocolate walls. I especially like your empty frames. It makes such a simple but interesting statement. Very creative. So glad you’re going to HomeGoods…it is a “vacation destination” isn’t it, LOL.
