HomeGoods has a lot of great selection of green artificial plants that look real and compliment the home.  This plant was one of my special purchases from HomeGoods that graces my kitchen.  It adds color and excitement.  when I take the plant away, I can see a drastic difference. You’ll see even more unusual an lovely plants when you go to my favorite store this week.

1. I love topiaries! HomeGoods has some great ones. The prices are cheaper than any place I’ve seen. Yours is very nice.

2. What would you do with a kitchen that was built
in the center of the house when extra rooms were added.
Where the window used to be the previous homeowners
made it into a display shelf. They painteded the back of the
bay window white. The back of the bay window sits right
over the master bath tub. It is horrible to look at.

In the middle of the day, you cannot see anything in the kitchen.
This uses a lot of electricity when I could use natural light.

I was thinking about using solatube lighting right over the kitchen
sink and placing mirrors in the back to reflect the light throughout
the kitchen. Please give me your opinion. If needed, I could email
pictures to show you what I mean.

3. Hi Sheila,

I really sympathize with you! A lot of times when extra rooms are added, people need to do more work on determining how this will impact on all aspects of the house and the lives of those who live there. Sometimes this is not carefully planned and the effective usability of some rooms might be jeopardized. As it is, it sounds like the worst thing that you could do is have the bath on the other side of the bay window of the kitchen. It would be far better if the window could be removed and a wall, replacing it. Is it possible that the window can be placed someplace else in the kitchen? Another wall? Natural light is absolutely significant in the kitchen. However, there are many apartments and condos that do not have natural light in the kitchen. But, I can honestly understand your need. If you can’t, then make it a point to add the additional lighting and on the other side of the bath, cover that painted window ( if not replaced with a wall) with a large mirror or some wall decor that will not be hampered by the bath.

I am confused about how you will use the solatube lighting over the kitchen sink and placing mirrors in the back to reflect light thoughout the kitchen. I would love to see pictures, because that would help with giving the appropriate image that you wish to convey.

I am not quite sure if money is a problem for changing the present setup of your kitchen. However, if your husband would agree, you might check with a vocational school in your area that trains students in home renovation and constuction. The students are carefully supervised by the teachers and you could check and see if they would be willing to come out to your home and assess what could be done to make your kitchen and bath more suitable and comfortable as a class project. I hope that this has been of some assistance. However, let us know how you make out. We look forward to hearing from you.
