There was a lot of space at the top of the stairs.  There was a mirror, but a kind of emptiness.  There was a need for something else to give that space life.  The decision was to give it the multi-level appeal.  At HomeGoods, I found the tall and beautiful vase, the two smaller vases where the sizes complimented each other, the lovely and  small wooden chest, and highlighted with the gold angel.  There is still great space at the top of the stairs and an interesting entrance to the second level.  Tell me what you did in your space.  ¼/p>

1. Very nice arrangement. I bet it looks nice in your house and something to look at when going up and down the stairs.

2. Very nice, similar to what I did at the top, right down to the Asian inspiration, BUT be careful – make sure it doesn’t face the stairs. Someone pointed out to me that I had to change the side, not facing the stairs. If someone steps back to admire or look in the mirror, they may fall backwards and down a flight! Especially children. But it did look awesome at the top.

3. Hi Rosemary,

Excellent advice! I should say that this design allows for sufficient space at the top. However, your advice is on target. We can never tell just how one might respond when looking into a mirror and stepping back. Thank you so very much for your wonderful comments and advice. What you have said will be strongly taken into consideration. Let us hear from you again soon!

7. I was inspired by your decorating idea and will be going to Homegoods to look for a small chest or wooden box and ceramic accents. I have already purchased 2 prints but — like you — was looking to fill the void below the wall decor on a nice sized landing. A piece of furniture was just too much for the space; however, your grouping is perfect. Thank you for sharing!

11. Hello Betty,
I have this exact vase! Isn’t it beautiful? Silly question, huh? Anyway, I just wanted to tell you what I do with mine. During the different seasons I change out the arrangement. … willow from my garden in March, Forsythia in April, Poinsettia’s at Christmas. I never make it too foofoo, I don’t want to detract from the simplistic beauty of the vase, but doing this makes it feel like I’ve got a brand new vase and is such a simple way to bring the seasons in! Try it, I think you’ll love it! You’ve obviously got great taste!

12. At the top of my stairway in there is an narrow alcove. I put a long low dresser there with an ornate mirror leaning on it. The ceilings are high so I chose not to hang the mirror but keep it low so it would reflect on those who came up the stairs. The mirror is deep red and black close to asian style but not exactly so I added a long bronze fish that has a glass bowl in it which I added marbles to which makes it very different and colorful. Then next to that I put a long wooden candle holder with 9 deep purple candles. I have two Japanese dolls that I received as a child from my dad who bought them while stationed there as well as a Japanese jewelery box these are next to the dresser. They all compliement each other and I like how the space turned out.
