For many years, the dining room China Cabinet/Hutch was relegated to fine china dishes for display and special use.  I love the idea of using it for the interesting finds that I have found in HomeGoods and other stores that might have intriguing items.  Many of these accessory items are from HomeGoods.  The one in the far right corner is from a young artist in Maryland.  One or two other pieces are from another store that houses lovely pieces.  I thought that I would share this with you.  I get a lot of joy out of interesting finds. ¼/p>

2. I have a question which I hope you can help me with. I have bought a glass-doored china cabinet in which to display my china. It has a large drawer in the bottom, and 3 shelves behind the glass doors. My question is how should I arrange my china – should I put all my plates etc in the display section? This would mean having stacks of plates viewable, in addition to the key pieces on display (I have eight place settings in 3 patterns which amounts to quite a lot). The alternative would be to display one place setting per pattern and keeping the remaining pieces in the drawer below. What should I do?Thanks in advance!

3. Hi Caroline,

Bravo!!!! You answered your question. It is appropriate to display three of the different place settings. You don’t have to put everything on display. You could put three dinner plates(one from each pattern), the cups and saucers from each pattern, the bread plates for each and spice it up with a different design of glassware-maybe a water goblet and a wine glass of three different styles to accommodate the three patterns of dinnerware. Then you can put in other pieces that you would like to displaly. It can be so much fun. I know that you have a lot of wonderful pieces that you could share on your shelves. The other dishes will go in the drawers at the bottom of the China Cabinet.

Good luck and do some fun things! Let us know how you make out.

4. Thanks so much, Betty.
I took your advice and it looks great. I have some royal albert music boxes and china figurines which I added to the mix, as well as some nice goblets and it turned out really fantastic.
Thanks again for sending me on the right track.

5. Hi Caroline,

Isn’t it amazing what you have in your home and you never really see it until you have an opportunity to put it in a display area and then you see the magnitude of these beautiful pieces that would go unnoticed if you had not made changes. I am so pleased for you. The Royal Albert Music Boxes, the china figurines and these wonderful goblets sound awesome! It’s amazing how this china closet with this arrangement can make the entire room. Congratulations! I am so pleased that you are so happy with the results. Keep in touch and share with us. We appreciate your comments.

6. Hello Betty,
Your cabinet is indeed a wonderful sight. Just thought I would let you know- I inherited a collection of Royal Worchester Bird figurines from my grandmother in England and have added them into the mix. My cabinet now almost reminds me of a picnic in a garden of wild flowers and wild birds. Cathy is absolutely right – collecting is fun and each piece is special to me which is what really matters, right? Thank you so much for your direction!
