This is a bathroom in a model home I visited. I love the simplicity and sophistication. The two contrasting colors are dramatic. A design principle of repeatition is evident in the 6 boxes on the wall and then again in the striped tile in the shower. A single black and white picture, some towels, a floral and a piece of sculpture is all the room requires to be a successful design. This style of bathroom would be so easy to recreate in our own homes. All of these elements could be purchased at stores like HomeGoods for well under $200. I’d pay that to have a “Hotel Chic” Bathroom!
1. This is chic and classy. A++ for sure!

7. Cathy, I just love this room, especially the dark vanity. As you know, I’m planning to paint my vanity black in the small bathroom we talked about. I’m in the process of getting all the things I need to make the transformation. Just have two questions for you. The hardware on the medium-tone wood vanity is brass, and I need to replace (or spray paint) them. What color? And, since I plan to paint my walls cream and tan stripes, and use red towels, what in the world should I hang above the toilet? I have a dark-framed mirror already to use above the vanity. I’ll be using a white shower curtain banded in black. As you enter the bathroom, the vanity and toilet are on the left, and you’re looking at the tub straight ahead. The towel bar is on the right wall. In fact, that’s all that is on the right wall. I’m just puzzled as what to use above the toilet, since I’ll have the large mirror above the vanity. The area above the towel bar (on the right wall) looks a little bare also, but I don’t want to make this small room look too busy. Can you help?

8. You’re back at it Janice,
You’re like me, you never get tired of decorating. LOL. To update the knobs on your vanity. You could replace them with a brushed nickel. They would go with everything. There are lots of things you can hang on the walls. Copy the boxes above and put some candles on them. Paint the boxes black. Add some matted art, red mats, black frames. Line up 3 red flowers in vases on a shelf. Keep it simple and don’t overdo. I would rather see a wall with nothing than too much.

9. Cathy, I did it!!!! Over the long weekend, I paint the bathroom vanity black and it looks wonderful. Thanks for assuring me that it would. Why didn’t I do this years ago! LOL I have ordered the white shower curtain with black stripes from the Ballard Designs catalog and am looking for red towels this week. My next step will be to paint the walls in 3 1/2 stripes. Since my tub and sink are a light cream color, should I use cream as the base coat and make my stripes tan? What do you think?
by Janice 3/24/08 at 12:11 pm #
10. WOW Janice, you did it. I bet the black vanity looks great. I knew it would. It sounds like you want to do the vertical stripes. You can stay with the 3 1/2 in. or go larger. Up to you. Try a test on some poster board and see what you like. Yes, use the cream color as the base coat ( let it dry good) and then go just the darker shade below that color (stay on the same paint chip) for the top stripe. It should look great. Let me know how it comes out.

11. Love, love, love this bathroom. I would like to redo my “Pink” bathroom.
That’s right I said pink. Walls, commode, sink , floors and walls. Everything in this tiny space 4′X7′, is pink. I bought the house five years ago and has been trying to get the funds to tackle this project.
This is exactly the type of space I envision for my bathroom.
Thanks for sharing.

12. Wow Pat,
Pink is great, but it sounds like you’re ready for a change. Even the sink and commode are pink??? You ARE ready for a change. This is a great bathroom look. Adjust the look to fit your room and you’ll have a wonderful space to relax and primp in.
Glad this could give you some inspiration.
Good luck “depinking”.
Keep us posted.

13. I went to homegoods web page and I could not find anything away to shop online.I notices that there was no catalog to look at so that you could shop. I want to know if there is such a thing or am I looking in the wrong. Thank you Teresa A.
by Teresa 7/23/08 at 11:46 pm #
14. Hi Teresa,
No, HomeGoods does not have a catalog or shopping online. A lot of the great things they get in their stores are not mass produced. They buy from specialty vendors all around the world. There are different things in different stores. So what you buy is unique and not seen everywhere. This also keeps all those great prices down. It seems to work, so why change.
Thanks so much for asking, write again soon.
