The kitchen in my home tends to be the major meeting room and then we dispense to the living room or the family room.  This wall decor is one of the simple ways to decorate the kitchen and add a little pizzazz while hoping to increase the relaxation of those who congregate.  It is a simple decorating style by using wall placques, with a variation of designs, two groups of (one) apples and (2) peppers.  These placques were purchased at HomeGoods.  The two white pictures are in bas relief. An interesting design.  The arrangement was simple, easy and contributed to the kitchen decoration.  What did you do to make your kitchen more comfortable and add a little excitement?

1. Hello Betty,

I feel your arrangement may have a few too many pieces in it. If you want to add color use the botanical prints lined up vertically & centered. then I would flank 2 of the same pepper or apple vines on each side. I have always liked the saying, “Less is More.” If you want less color, display the two relief prints-horizontally and top off with the medallion like print, then add your vines. Using an odd number of pieces creates more balance than being symmetrical. Keep up the fun we seem to have and change out those vines seasonally at Home Goods! Lynn

2. Too much goin on. Get rid of some and try coordinating some of the pictures that have the same theme.

3. Too much goin on. Take some of them down and only pair like prints together. Hang the pepers and strand of fruit somewhere else in the kitchen, if no space, delete altogether.

6. Hi Betty:

I too agree with Judy and Lynn. The wall is EXTREMELY busy. Why don’t you consider having one large piece of artwork on the wall. I don’t oppose to having numerous pieces of artwork, but only if they compliment each other. I too decorate part-time, so if you ever need help, please consider reaching out to me!

7. Even though my kitchen is in need of updated cabinets etc., it still looks pretty cool all together, I think, in fact, its one of my favorite rooms. The cabinets were horribly ugly when I bought this place, dreary old wood so I painted them a lemony yellow color and replaced the knobs and pulls with simple clean line red ones. One of the walls (really the main one, everything else has cabinets, I papered in a red gingham check vinyl covering which has held up well and is good about concealing any smudges etc. The checks are about 3/4 inch square. There is wainscoting at the bottom of the gingham which is lemon yellow too. Then I had fun buying tin reproductions of old advertisements for bread, soft drinks etc. and arranged them to cover the whole wall, very interesting to look at. In the center of the tins is one larger framed poster with a well known soft drink advertisement. All the colors are bright, yellow and red. For my kitchen table I have a retro style round white fomica top table like in a diner. Light beige vinyl floor covering on the floor. It all looks so cute, a step bag in time, nostalgia can be fun!

10. Although it may seem like a lot is going on I think you came up with a unique idea that works for you. And you can have two different looks. You can take down the apples and peppers and it is still beautiful. You can put them back up again for fall and winter to change the look simply.
It’s all about simplicity!
