This bathroom project has been a work in progress for a couple of months. For some reason, I don’t like bathrooms to be too traditional. I want them to be fun and interesting. Maybe because we spend so much time in them. After finding the shower curtain and towels, I started looking for accent items. The shower curtain is covered with words of encouragement which I thought was a great way to start the day, and end it for that matter. So, I was excited to be able to find words to hang on the walls as well. I had trouble finding the exact colors I wanted, but a little paint took care of that. The bench for the vanity, is a sturdy metal table with a coordinating pillow set on top. The mirror makes the room seem a little bigger, and may help us keep our weight in check as well.

1. I love this bath room. I have been struggling with my bathroom. We rent, and the bathroom was last done when pink and blue were in. The walls are pink tile mid wall and down, bordered with blue tile. The upper walls are wallpapered with little blue and pink flowers. The sink and tub are blue. The toilet, a recent replacement, is white. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Tonya

2. Thanks Tonya! I think I would look at the shabby chic patterns if you like them at all. Because you are renting you probably don’t want to go to the expense of changing much in there. Although you might ask if they would care if you painted rather then keeping the wallpaper. The nice thing about the tiny quilt like patterns is that you can use them together even if they don’t match exactly. So, I think I would look for a shower curtain first that pulled all of the colors together, use white towels and rugs, and then just a few simple accents on the walls like a mirror or small white shelf, etc. I wonder what our interior decorators in the group would do. Have fun in the process!

4. I like your bathroom….All this bathroom needs is a new WHITE tile floor or if you would prefer a CREAM colored tile floor. That would LIFT up everything else that you have done in such a lovely way. Hey for an extra splash of light add a few smaller mirrors mimicing the frame of the large mirror… for that WOW factor!

5. Overall, I like this bathroom…the only thing I would change is the pillow. Maybe one with a gusset would be better suited to the straight lines of the room.

6. I appreciate your thoughts. I agree about the pillow and have been thinking of ways to “flatten it a little.” Thanks Kris!

Davis, I hadn’t looked closely until your comment that in the picture the floor does look dark. It actually is a cream colored floor, so your comment is right on! Thanks.

7. Am going to paint my bedroom. The ceiling & trim are white. I am going to be putting in one wall with pine boards and the furniture will be light oak. What color would you recommend for the other three walls. I found a color called Oatlands Upholstery Red but I rally like purple colors.

What would you suggest?

Thanks

8. Hi Sherri, Have you selected any accent items yet? If you have made your choice on bedding, or an upholstered chair . . . I usually start with something I have that I know I want in a room, pull out a favorite color and work with that. When we moved into our current home, I matched a color in the plaid loveseats and found a wonderful colonial gold color that is perfect in there. Sometimes if you start with your paint it can become difficult to find the other items to match. The other thing I do is search decorating mags for ideas. I hope this helps. Let us know what you decide.

9. I re-did my bedroom-quilt with blues, crimson red, beiges. My curtains are crimson. I want to do a wall a different color-my walls are beige.
What would be a good color ? I have two windows on the wall I want to paint- they are crimson. Any ideas

Thanks

10. Debbie, I think many of us would agree that finding just the right paint color is a bit of a challenge. I think since you have the new quilt that you love . . . either bring color strips home or carry you quilt to the store (I have actually done crazy things like that. LOL.) I would go with the color that simply makes you happy. If there is one in the quilt that stands out in your mind that is probably the one. Then once you have your matching paint sample tape it on the wall near the crimson curtains and windows. If it doesn’t clash and you are still feeling it’s a go after a few days, then that is probably your color.

I’m sure there are some who would make it much more scientific than that, but I am all about how a color makes me feel. If it makes me smile or feel comfortable, that is usually the one I pick.

Have fun in the quest! Deb
