It is not always necessary to use expensive tile to achieve a “big statement” I helped a developer with this kitchen backspash; and though relatively inexpensive, the end result made a nice statement. Some of the tiles are “crackled” I am not sure you can see this on the picture.
Keep this hint in mind at the tile store.

There are so many ways to do a backsplash without a lot of cost…..
Having the tile laid in a “subway” pattern is one…..using groups of glass tiles together (ex. group 4 or 6 together to look like a larger tile) These mixed with standard tiles can give a big “pop”
Adding a rope tile, can give a more expensive look…..
The possibilities are endless, take your time and try to do something that you will not easily tire of……a backsplash is considered a “bone” of the house, and normally we don’t change them very often.
