I saw these beautiful live orchids displayed in tall clear vases and thought how gorgeous they were. These were at least 2 feet tall. You could use artificial ones (with plastic stems) as well, with water and couple drops of bleach to keep the water clear and clean. Any other tall flowers would look good as well. Try lining 3 up on a dining table, or make them for great wedding centerpieces (WOW) , baby showers, gifts. Just remember to keep it simple. The beauty of the design lies in its simplicity.
1. was disappointed that i could not click onto the different items that are
sold throughout the store. my daughter shops at home goods and i was

2. to add something to your idea of another way to use tall vases, I have recently found out that, for those of us with asthma or allergy issues, I can still have orchids or other “thicker pettled” flowers in my home. All I have to do is use one of my tall glass vases and put in a stem of orchids or a few tulips or whatever and then fill the vase completely with water, covering the flowers…they really last well, and the water magnifies the beauty of the orchids…and in this way, I won’t be sneezing as I enjoy the flowers…….thanks…sandi

3. Sandy,
I love your great idea for covering the flowers with water for people that have allergies. This will help alot of people now enjoy flowers. Thanks for sharing.

5. When we were in Aruba this past Winter the lobby of the hotel (Westin) was decorated with tall vases filled with various tropical flowers. I was surprised to see that they could actaualy survive ‘within’ the vase.
They made a beautiful presentation.

by natalie 5/20/07 at 2:39 pm #

Natalie, I’ve seen the vases in many home stores. HomeGoods has them and less expensive than most. The orchids you can get at a florist shop.
Thanks for asking.

8. I actually made this flower arrangement for the Hallway of my Condo.I “borrowed” this idea from the Westin Hotel.Got the tall vase and a stem of silk yellow orchids just like the one shown in the picture and two small red anturiums and 3 willow twigs.Since the flowers were not real,I boughta bag of “pieces of clear glass” (plastic actually)I secured the orchid stem in a piece of florist foam, cut the stems of the anturiums (and left aprox. 2 inches left) and put them in the bottom of the orchid stem, one in front, one in the back.secured them in the florist foam as well. Then I used the 3 willow twigs in the back of the arrangement and secured them in the foam as well. Then I used a piece of palm tree leave to cover the bottom of the stems where they met as florist tape would be used. Then I put all those in the vase and poured the “crystals” to cover the florist foam. The “crystals” do the same trick as the water would and it’s a great alternative for faux flowers. It looks super simple and very elegant.Everyone in my building wants to sop by to see it and want to “borrow’ the idea as well.

9. I saw this same display at Costco during Mother’s Day Weekend. They no longer have them, but I found vases almost identical to them at Home Goods for only 7.99. I bought two and used them to decorate a table filled with limes and each had a shoot of bamboo coming out of the top. They looked fabulous. Just keep searching the store, you will find what you are looking for sooner or later.

10. Lola, Your flower arrangement sounds absolutely beautiful. Share a picture if you can.
Lynn, Thats where I saw these. Much higher price even at Costco than you could make them yourself.

13. Submersible lights really set the mood to this idea with tall vases filled with water, and flowers.
by Debbie [...] 8/4/07 at 10:35 am #
14. Hi Debbie,
What a great idea. Where do you buy submersible lights? Its like an “uplight” behind a tree only in a vase. Great ambiance for a room.
Tell us more.

15. I love all the ideas for the glass tall vase I just purchased. I originally bought the vase after watching a decorating show on PBS. In the show, she used the vase to store toilet paper rolls decoratively near the commode. I added my own idea to use a glass etching kit from the craft store to etch a design to camoflage the rolls. After I got it home, I began to worry that the cat might knock it over. This put me on the search for the same design, but make of acrylic. I’ve has a dead end on this search and am curious if anyone else was able to locate the same tall clear vase, but made out of acrylic? Thanks for any help!
by Barbara 9/23/07 at 11:34 pm #
16. Hi Barbara,
T P idea is good. I haven’t seen any clear tall “acrylic” vases. If anyone has…write in and let us know.
Some other tall vase bathroom ideas… put a lot of the round soap or oil balls in the bottom and roll up hand towels or wash cloths in the top half.
Fill vase with cotton balls, or a tall candle. I love these vases, so versitle.

17. Sorry, excuse my spelling… VERSATILE…

22. Hi Marzelle,
I had a nice heavy tall and wide clear vase which was filled with silk flowers very much like the one in the picture. My dog knocked it over and it broke when it hit the television set. I am having a very very difficult time finding another that is tall enough; wide enough and durable. The ones in this picture look very similar. Any suggestions would be very greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Lauren

23. Hello Lauren,
So sorry your dog knocked over your vase. I’ve seen these vases all over where I live, (which may not be the case where you live). Check, of course, HomeGoods or stores similar. Also if you have access to a floral supply store, they would have them. Crystal and glass outlets,
or even online, you might find some.
Good luck with the search. These vases are so versatile…it’s hard to live without them.
