I am on the lookout for candlesticks, tall ones and artificial trees.

4. Hi Cathy,
I sooo relate to the excitement of a new HomeGoods nearby. My best friend and I used to visit a HomeGoods in Enicinitas, CA. twice a month, until one opened up just 6 miles away in Poway, CA. Love it so much! We marked our calendars and counted down the days until the “grand opening”. It was delayed a few days due to a flooring issue, but we were still there the first day and a few times a week ever since. I own a Kitchen and Bath remodeling company and was able to decorated my entire showroom with HomeGoods finds. I left the tags on the bottom of almost every item so I can show my clients how well you can decorate on a budget! Yay HomeGoods!!

5. The bookcase where you painted the back of it in black — I have a question — my bookcase beside my ugly brick fireplace is stained — I have always wanted to colorwash the brick on my fireplace — goes to the ceiling and I have a hearth — the brick is a red brick — what do you think — would I need to paint the brick another color like a light brush of black before I “whitewash” the brick — or do you think I would be making a mistake — and I want to paint the bookcase and paint the backs of the bookcase a different color — if I don’t do anything, can I still paint the back of the stained bookcase? What do you think??????

Thanks,

Linda

6. We just got one in Vacaville, CA…love that store!!!!
My husband and I joked that we could go crazy in that store if someone would just give us a $1000 gift certificate…
Try the Palm Wax pillar candles…they are THE best candles I’ve ever used.

7. All Homegoods a.k.a Marshalls in Lower Michigan are known as
Mary Jo’s Mega Marshalls, because I LOVE THESE STORES. I have so many neat items from there. I mean I literally think of something I would love to have and presto it is in the store. I have a large home and lots of rooms to decorate. I also have a sunroom that has MJ M – M’s touches ALL over it. My pond and pathway to it have many statues and all sorts of great things to look at enjoy. LOVE IT can’t live without it.

8. Hi Linda,
I read your question and thought you might like another designer’s opinion(II’m a kitchen designer/decorator) My advice is don’t be afraid!! If you don’t like it paint it. I would paint your fireplace cream or perhaps a khaki .Then paint your bookcases black with cream/khaki backs (so the items you display will pop) Another pretty idea is to line the backs of your bookcases with fabric and have coordinating pillows of the same fabric in the room. Whatever you do, don’t be afraid, you can always repaint. I can’t tell you how many colors have been in my house and I loved them all! Good Luck…TinaMarie

10. Thanks Tina for your comments — in furtherance to my blog — here goes — this fireplace and bookcase are in a large open area den/living room — with cathedral ceiling — the walls are a greyish taupe color — more grey than taupe — so the khaki would not work —- and with the greyish/taupe walls, I have a stark white trim — NOW, what color — texture, etc. do I paint the brick fireplace — and what color would I paint the bookcase — I probably will paint or fabric the back of the bookcase in a burgundy shade of some sort — to match my Oriental rug, and pillows, etc. on my sofa — any suggestions — anyone — Thanks,

11. Hi Shirley and Annabel,
The new HomeGoods in my area opened up in Tustin, Ca. In The District shopping center. Its pretty unbelievable, go take a look!!

You’re right ,Tina Marie!!

Hi Linda,
Yes, you can whitewash the red brick. Start with 1 part white paint and 3 parts water. Wet the bricks first as you go so the wash goes on smoother. Test first on some other bricks for the color you want. Yes you can paint the stained bookcase. Sand the case a little first and then paint it with a stainblocking primer then paint it with your color choice.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip on the candles Lori.

MAry Jo, Sounds like your’re a Big HomeGoods fan too, who isn’t !!!!

Good ideas Tina Marie!

Hi Gladys, I think you would like HomeGoods if you went. I’m never disappointed.

Thanks for all your great comments I read them all. Cathy

12. I love Homegoods too. I like going in once a week just to see what’s new. I’m looking for some kind of formal seating for a music room with a baby grand. Has anybody seen any lately?

13. I have a store soon to open in my town… Do they carry drapes? We desperately need textiles!

14. I love your photos..The stores near me are not merchandised well. You can hardly move in the aisles. That doesn’t stop me though. The hooked rugs that have come in recently are fabulous. Also love the giclee like art that is new to our stores in Stamford and Norwalk CT.

15. Hi again Linda and fellow HomeGooders,

Linda wow your room sounds like a challenge…I thought you had 2 bookcases flanking the fireplace, my mistake. In reviewing your added information I concur with Linda, try the white washing method on the fireplace. Is your bookcase beside the fireplace? If it is, be carefu,l painting the back of it burgandy because it could make your room look visually lopsided. Have you considered painting just the fireplace wall an accent color (burgandy?) Then you could whitewash/paint white the bookcase and paint the back of it the same as the wall , thus creating a more balanced look for the room. What is on the other side of the fireplace? What color of wood is the bookcase? Do you have any other woods/painted furnishing in the room? Another way to go is to paint the bookcase black, I always like some black in every room. I wish I could drive over and see your room for myself. Good luck!

16. Hi Marie, I’ve seen some beautiful settee’s and formal French and Itialian chairs in HomeGoods. They would make a beautiful sitting area in your piano room. The prices are very low also, less than sale furniture in other stores. Not all HoomeGoods carry the same things so check in often.

Hi Trish,
You will LOVE your now store!!! As far as I know they do not carry Drapery. But I could be wrong. Has anyone bought drapery there?

Trish, Yes, lots of great stuff in those stores, a little crowded sometimes but better more than less for me. yes, the rugs are great and artwork.

Tina Marie, you have some great ideas!!

17. Love, love, love my HG which is 30 minutes away in Vernon, CT. Don’t get there as often as I’d like which is probably healthier for my check book. The problem is that anytime I have to reach the highway, it means passing a HG distribution center which is only 10 minutes from my home and I soooo wish the locations were reversed.

Tina Marie, thanks for the suggestion for lining bookcases with fabric that coordinates with pillows. I may just have to try that.

18. Cathy, I love that style table with 3 drawers in the picture. A little bigger would be perfect for a 1/2 bath vanity/sink.

By the way, do you know how I can find out which the best Home Goods/Marshalls/TJMaxx in Massachusetts? I find that not all stores keep the same stock and some stores carry test merchandise before it goes to other stores. Thanks.

by Brenna — 5/24/07 at 12:25 pm #

19. Hi Brenna,
Re: your question about the best stores in Mass- The Framingham MA HomeGoods is amazing. I shop the Bedford MA stores all the time (too often!) and have found those to be my favorite- plus you can shop all three stores right in one town!
Good luck!
Tess

by Tess — 5/29/07 at 11:10 am #

20. Thanks Tess. I have shopped at the Framingham one & one in Acton. I’ll give Bedford a shot. Thanks again.

24. First of all I would love to have a Home Goods closer to my home. I don’t live far from Stroudsburg, PA and think that would be an ideal spot, as the closest one is in Bethlehem, PA, almost an hour away. I would also like to ask how you can find a Home Goods, say you go on vacation. The web site and phone numbers only give you the sites closest to where you live. I think there should be a listing of all the Home Goods and their phone numbers. Does anyone know if this exists?

by Harriet [...] — 6/11/07 at 7:26 pm #

25. Dear Harriet,

Please email us (there is a link on http://www.homegoods.com) or you may call our customer service department at 800-888-0776 and we would be happy to send you a listing of all our stores.

26. I was introduce to HomeGoods over a year ago by a very dear friend. My first visit was like being in a candy store as a child. That is the way friends and I describe it. I have shared this good news with friends, family, co-worker and stranger in the street, in dept stores….everywhere. I love making people happy and that is how Shopping at HomeGood makes me.

If I could get one dollar for every person I’ve shared this good news with, I would be rich. My Niece and sisters ask me, “are you woking for them, because I am always talking about Your stores. Especially when I see shoppers buying items that I know they can find it at a much cheaper price at HomeGoods.

I ‘ve shoped at most of your stores in New Jersey, Broomall PA and outside of Philadelphia on route 309. Each store is always set up beautiful and clean, and the staff is always pleasant and very helful. I can not get enough of this store, calledl HomeGoods.

I would love to see a HomeGooods come in the Philadelphia area, where I would not have to go so far out. I don’t drive and I always have to wait until I have a ride to visit your stores. It is alway worth the wait. Closer would be better for me. Thank you HomeGoods for making me a happy woman.

I have found prices cut at least 60% or more on most items. Most stores I shop that are cheaper in price, the stores are alway not so clean and clutter all over the place. HomeGoods products, are always in place, beautifully set and arranged. I love the felling you get when you first enter the store, the lights are very bright and the Items are set with bright color and very enviting. I could go on and on and on.

Bye for now.

27. Hello Darlyne,
Thanks so much for singing praises to HomeGoods. Its not hard to do. I hope a store opens up near you soon. I’ll put in a good word for you, Ha!
I wish I could. Just to let you and others know, all the writers on this blog site are NOT employees of HomeGoods (wish we were for the employee discount, HA). We are customers just like you, (maybe a little more fanatical but customers still the same). So we write about what excites us. Decorating, shopping, great deals. That gets our attention and yours too from what we hear. So keep writing and we’ll do our best to keep up.
Thanks for your great comments, write soon,

28. We are exctied to be getting a Home Goods in San Carlos, CA. Not sure when it is opening but I hope soon.

29. Hey Bob,
Its so nice to hear from the “Men Folk”!! I’m excited for you! Nothing like a new HomeGoods to look forward to. I hope you find some great stuff up there in San Carlos. Write back and let us know.

30. I absolutely love Home Goods. My favorite purchase was a beautiful needlepoint rug for under $500. I had planned to have a rag rug custom made in the colors in my breakfast room at a much, much higher price. The rug I got at Home Goods was not only much more fun and whimsical, it was just the punch the room needed. The biggest regret I have is that I saw a huge carved mirror at your store for $300 right after I purchased one just like it at half price for $700. I can’t believe another store was selling the exact mirror at the full price of $1,400.

by Pamela — 7/5/07 at 6:53 pm #

31. Hello Pamela,
Yes, HomeGoods is pretty hard to beat for price and quality. I’ve purchased so many things that I’ve seen elsewhere for way more, for the the exact same thing. It sounds like you bought some beautiful furnishings for your home. Enjoy them and happy shopping at HomeGoods.

32. Hi Cathy~
I live in Glendale, Az. and saw a sign that said “Home Goods Opening Soon” along Bell Ave.
I would love to apply there but there is no information as to where to go. Would you have any information for me?
I have an Interior Decorator diploma and know I would be an asset to the company. I would also like to get in on the ground floor of a new aspiring store!

Thank -you for your time

Brenda
