This doll was a gift from my daughter a few years ago. She is very similar to my favorite doll when I was a little girl. I keep her sitting on my dresser wearing some of my necklaces. I love the fact that my necklaces are always handy, they don’t seem to get tangled, and it gives me an excuse to display one of my favorite things. This is a great idea for a girl’s room as well, if you are not quite ready to get in touch with your inner child! :-) So, go up to the attic and pull out that old doll, now you have a reason to put her on display. Or go to your local store and check out the dolls in their kid’s department. The picture below is of the fabulous selection of dolls at my local store!

The 4th of July is almost here. I love seeing all the flags and decorations on peoples homes and in the stores. Red, white and blue everywhere. It makes me feel proud and grateful for our country. Heres wishing all of you a wonderful Independence Day. Its great to live in “The land of the free and the home of the brave.”

A client was happy with the playful colors and furnishings she had in her small family room. But, she said, “it just doesn’t look finished”.(top photo, before). She wanted to paint all the walls yellow. I told her to try red. She wasn’t sure about all of the walls being red. So, she installed a chair rail and paneling and painted them white and above were the red walls. Also, crown moulding was added to “frame” and “contain” the color. The red was the right background for the art and furnishings. The room came to life. All it needed was a little color. Another idea we had was to use the childrens table and chairs in place of a coffee table so they could color and play in the room. Remove the chairs and it became a coffee table. A dual purpose idea. Sometimes all it takes is a little color to transform a room.

Looking for the interior decorating style and design that is right for your home, for your family and the environment is not always easy.  Often, it is easier to help someone else decorate their home. You must decide what makes you happy. Learn what excites you.

For a few years, I tried to find the right design and color coordination for the livingroom.  The primary intent was to buy two love seats that would fit comfortably in this livingroom/diningroom area and replace the ones that were presently there.  After two years,  the search was becoming impossible.  New love seats were often too consuming and too large for the space in the livingroom.  The next thing to do was to find a good upholsterer.  I was blessed to find a superb one, whose price was more than just right.  As a result, the room was changed around the work by the upholsterer, the discount material from a fabric store, a few changes in furnishings, and the desire and determination to make the difference in the room/home.   Before:

After:

With the assistance of this really great upholsterer who also covered the valance, a woman who has excellent skills with making drapes, several items purchased from HomeGoods; I was able to see transition that was pleasing and acceptable. Some definite changes were:

1. The bookcase was replaced by a pedestal with white orchids in a wonderful container on top- 2. The red lamp shade from HomeGoods was among the tremendous buys- 3.  The two pillows in the middle of each love seat and the smaller pillows on the end of each love seat are reversible with red fabric on the opposite sides-  4. The valance that you can not see very well, is in the same print as the small end- pillows- 5. Everything was very much under cost – 6. I am a bargain shopper who loves a good deal, but I love knowing that I have great results–thats why I love, love  HomeGoods.

…DO YOU KNOW HOW LOVED YOU ARE”, was a saying on a little sign in the kids section of HomeGoods. I had to stop and look at all the adorable things on display. I always need a baby shower gift and saw these gingham lined baskets (see pictures). What a cute gift… add some tissue paper in the bottom and arrange a stuffed animal, photo frame, padded hangers, embroidered washcloths etc. in the basket. Purchase a yard of tulle netting to tie up around the whole thing. Attach a satin ribbon with a rattle tied on and what a great gift to give and at a really good price. Do you have any great baby shower gift ideas? Love to hear…

Another little sign said…”May all your dreams come true”.

Below, I love the lavendar shag rugs, too cute..

I enjoy beautiful window treatments. When we purchased our present home, I was thrilled with the draperies in the great room. I was even more excited when I realized that I had leftover upholstery fabric that matched our loveseats. So, while the room was being painted, I recovered the cornices and voila, a custom decorated room. I also liked the fact that the previous owners had used the fabric between the windows, so that none of the gorgeous view was blocked.

Someone requested to see other rooms in the “Staged to sell” blog I wrote previously. This is the before and after of the master bedroom, (she was packing, thus the mess). To get this ready to sell, I purchased 2 bedside chests. All the bedding came from a model home resale store. New lamps and pictures from HomeGoods. Drapes are a king size sheet cut in half and seamed for a rod pocket. Matching pillow cases on the bed, from Wal-Mart. The dishes were the clients and the pine units (we wanted to paint or stain them a dark brown but didn’t have time). The wall color was there, a dark beigh. It looked fabulous with the blue accessories. Very simple changes but it made a big difference in the look of the room. For the short time and budget we had to work with, it came together pretty good.

These are wonderful displays in HomeGoods that the display manager referred to as Party Fun.  The first is a wide variety of party essentials that could stir the hearts of children and adults.  One of the cutest of all items is the Cotton Candy maker.  A popcorn machine and an ice cream maker are not in the picture; but are also wonderful additions HomeGoods has for Party Fun.  If you are planning a party for children or adults,  these are some of the essentials that can and will make any party a major success.

This close-up highlights some wonderful candies with bubblegum in the center, colorful and exciting lollypops that kids will enjoy.

Now, for the adults party favorites is this beautiful stainless steel and black wine cooler.  The quality is great and the price is right!

And, what about this beautiful ice chest?  It is a most unusual piece of furniture.  What is most amazing is that you can find it all at  HomeGoods.  I get excited everytime I enter the door of HomeGoods, because I know that I will always find extraordinary items for minimal cost.  If you like what you have seen, get to HomeGoods right away to make the purchase.  Great displays sell wonderful items.

just wanted to share a thought with you….I am in so many homes these days with “open floorplans” and I just wanted to remind everyone that furniture does not have to be touching a wall….in fact, furniture can create walls and divide rooms! Don’t be afraid to pull things away from walls, angles are also nice…..go out on a limb and have fun with “open floorplans”

PS these photos are from the home we sold prior to moving to the beach….I am sure some of the accessories will look familiar, and if you look closely you will see Dixie (our yellow lab) as well……..
happy decorating!

The shore house is going up. Pilings are going in tomorrow. Foundation will start next week. As this is a modular home they want to set the house the end of the month. It will move fast from that point on. Would like to be in by the wedding in September.

Need to choose a color for one of the guest rooms. The posted picture shows the bed which will go in this room and the accessories used to furnish the room. There are two windows and a nine panel glass door to the balcony, which looks out to the water. By the way this room gets sunlight all afternoon. My obvious choice would be a light sage, but this is the color I chose for the master bedroom and master bath. Would like a color with some warmth but not too dark. Can you give be a few suggestions.
