When visiting several model homes lately, I noticed this attractive way to display towels. It was so easy and added a lovely touch. One home had the ribbon and tassels you see here. Another bath had ribbons tied with small decorative mirrors accenting the towels. The more I thought about it, I realized that small brooches, a nosegay of flowers, or a wider wire edged ribbon were all possibilities. So, have fun and decorate those towels. Then let us know your ideas for adding a little personality to your decorative towels.
1. Deb,
The possibilities are really endless for this…seashells hung from jute or raffia, a small grouping of sticks for the woodland look, little glass ball ornaments hung from ribbon with accents of holly for the holidays, miniature picture frames hung from ribbon, small wooden utensils for a kitchen display, crystals (like the ones you see on chandeliers)hung from ribbon, and any of the decorative picks you see during any holiday would work great with some coordinating ribbon. I use white towels as my base in my powder room and then I can change the look very easily for each season. Layering with smaller towels to coordinate with the seasons. Hope I didn’t go on and on, but this one was easy for me to comment on!
Happy decorating or embellishing in this case!

4. My husband made the comment of ” were are people supposed to dry their hands” he mentioned that he doesnt like going to model homes or open houses were the towels are displayed that way because he feels its to fancy and cant picture himself living there. so subconciously he writes these houses of and didnt realize why until now. I guess in a way I understand. Just a silly thought, it would be good to appeal to bolth sexes :0)

5. Thanks for that great comment Chance. I agree, I am uncomfortable using fancy towels on the towel bar when visiting as well. What I do to solve the confusion for visitors at my house . . . I always lay a clean fresh finger tip towel next to the sink. That way it becomes clear as to which towel I am hoping they will use. Thanks again. Deb

6. do not care for tying towels at all..nothing like the simplicity of 2 great fluffy towels, even better with monograms.

7. I do agree, Vera, fluffly towels are the best! Monograms are an elegant touch as well. I just love the way we can all come together and share our likes, dislikes, and ideas. Thanks for your input. Deb

8. I solved the guest towel problem by keeping a basket on my counter, just the right size for paper hand towels. You can sometimes find these in lovely patterns at Home Goods and in a wide variety of colors at Card and Party stores. They are also available for holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, etc. I have, in a pinch, folded large Vanity Fair napkins to fit into the attractive, inexpensive basket I found at Home Goods.
This way you can keep your display looking pretty and guests have an attractive solution at hand

9. I have the hardest time coming up with different way to fold towels to hang them in order to put decorative items on them
You see so many variations of different types of folds or hangs and I have no concept in that area.
Any place to go that would illustrate that?
Thank you

10. Mary Jo, I googled towel folding (I know, it’s amazing what you can find out on the internet) and found several interesting sites to explore. So, have fun exploring and if I find anymore ideas I will get them out there. Thanks for your input. Deb

12. Thanks for all the ideas. Pat, your idea is great. MRSA infection (methicillin-resistant Staph aureus) is becoming such a widespread problem these days and towel sharing is a big NO-NO. I’ve left a roll of paper towels in my powder room before for guests as I knew one family member coming to visit was a carrier of the bacteria. I will use your idea next time as it will be a much nicer look.

13. I get alot of compliments on my towels. I took a hand towel and fold the bottom about 1/4 creating a pocket; use safepin to hold in place. Then I took a hand towel and folded it like a fan, place a rubberband on it to keep its shape. Tuck the fan towel inside of the pockets of the hand towel. and place it on top of your larger towels.
