This is an office in a model home. I love the layout! It’s functional and very decorative as well. Stylish design and use of space. One whole wall in the room has built-in shelves and closed cabinets on the bottom. The desk area is extended out into the center of the room creating a two sided work area. Although this is all built-in, it would be so easy to recreate this design with ready-made shelving units and a table or hollow- core door with legs attached. The “X” leg detail is great looking and would be easy to build (picnic table style). Paint everything one color and you’d have a very stylish office area. All the accessories, furnishings, and rug could be purchased at HomeGoods for even more savings. What do you think? Do you like this arrangement?

2. Hi Cathy,

I love this arrangement! Even though I like my office, I have had the same awkward desk that I have had for so many years. I need to reevaluate my usuage of space and reconsider this kind of design. This was refreshing to see!

3. Dear Cathy,
I really do like this arrangement. I work from home and I am currently using my son’s bedroom as an office because our desk and computer are in his bedroom. Trust me when I say it is not the most ideal place for working. My living room flows right into my family room, you have given me the idea of dividing both rooms with ready made shelving units. I will also have my husband build the same table featured above. It is definitely very stylish looking.
Thank you for the great idea!

4. Hi Sandy,
Yes, it would make a great craft room. Or in a kitchen area, an eating area with display shelves. Or a kids room, play table and storage. Family room as a game table with storage. Many ways to customize it to your needs. Thanks for the great idea.

5. Thank you Betty,
Its good to rethink and refresh a space once in a while. Its nice to pull the desk or work area away from the wall if you have the space. A new perspective to look at and to work from. Thanks again.

6. Hello Carmen,
Yes, for those of us who don’t have extra rooms for offices, you sometimes can divide a larger living space and have it function as office area and still look decorative. Good luck on your project and thanks for writing.

7. Hi Cathy,

I really like this arrangement, but the plant is taking over the whole desk. It looks pretty, but not practical. Otherwise, I like the arrangement.

9. Boy I really like this and will use it someday as an inspiration in my kunky office…..my only concern is the wires…..I don’t see the tangled mess….
Love it!!!!

10. Hello Julie,
Yes, you would have to use a wireless network computer if you didn’t want all the wires showing. Or you could cut a hole in the top and run all the wires under the table top to the cabinets. I’m sure theres a way to hide the wires . I’m glad you like the design. Thanks for commenting.

11. Hello Julie,

The office looks wonderful. What color is the paint used in the room.

12. Hello Barbara,
This is a model home and I don’t know the paint color. Its a nice camel color and there was some grass cloth lining the backs of the bookcases.
Sorry, thats all I can give you on that.

13. This is awsome!!! I have been searching for a set-up I like for my scrapbook room. I have not seen one I have been thrilled with. I knew when one came it would hit me….This is ist! I think it can be sort of adapted to a similar style for sure. As in two high book shelves on either side, with a small one in middle than an extending flat table/desk in the middle. Oh, so cool.
