I’ve had “house organizing” on the brain for some time now, (too bad it just sits there and doesn’t sink into the ACTION area of the brain). I needed some motivation to get going. Where does one go to relieve the anxiety of procrastination….SHOPPING!! Off to HomeGoods. I was surprised to see all the great looking stylish storage options they had, (I’m good with a few shoe boxes and paper bags…). Time to get serious and stylish, ( you never know who’ll be looking in your closets).
There were so many displays of organization options, I had to show you a few of them. So many uses for any and all of these boxes and containers and they were so decorative, you would’nt want to hide them. As always, the prices were really good. So, I have no excuse not to get things done.
Happy organizing! Any good tips on organization would be welcomed….

2. Boy that pink and green set got my attention,,,,,,
Could use some of the left over wallpaper or buy a roll for that purpose.

3. Hi Deb,
Yes, the displays were great. There were 3 or 4 more to see as well.
After seeing all these, you WANT to go home and start to organize things.
Thanks for your comment.

Hello Julie,
I love that Pink and Green floral as well. I would keep these out on a shelf
or on a dresser or desk. Very eye catching.
Take care and write again.

6. Good to hear from you again Margie,
It was interesting to hear, the store you went to in Buffalo, N.Y. has a lot of these same items as here in Calif. Many of the stores have the same things and others have different items. Thats what makes it so fun, you never know what you’ll find in each store… Hope you’re enjoying your summer. In a few months you’ll be down in Florida having a great time decorating your new house. How exciting!! Stay in touch. Take Care, Cathy

7. Shabby in South Carolina
Dear Decorators,
I am new to this blog, and happened to find it completely by accident. I spent a lot of time last night reading and looking at the photos many of you have posted, and I am so ‘wowed’ by all of you! The photos of your ideas and the written expressions for decorating are absolutely exactly what I need right now! When I read this organization post first, I knew that I’d probably not happened by this blog by accident, and it was for me!
My name is Marie and I am hoping for someone (or preferably many of you!) to offer suggestions about a number of things regarding my home. I have been a Home Goods shopper for a long time, but as of nineteen months ago, we moved from our home state of Vermont to South Carolina. In Vermont, we had a Home Goods store that was reasonably close by, and it was my absolute favorite place to shop! I love the different frames that they have for photos and all of the different things there…. It’s one of those stores where I could spend the night and still not have had enough time to see everything! I just love Home Goods!!
I’m very disappointed here in South Carolina, that our closest Home Goods store is Concord, North Carolina, as it’s a drive for us. I honestly wouldn’t mind the drive so much (about an hour and a half to three quarters hour drive from us) but I am not road savvy with directions, and am probably not capable of finding the store by myself. To bring my husband would be great, but he’s soooooo NOT a shopper, and needless to say, he isn’t the type to ‘want to spend the night’ in any kind of store! Another words, I would leave the store after the long drive feeling disappointed because I wasn’t able to buy things that I would have had he not been with me… terrible, but very true! :-)
The questions that I have are… I haven’t ever been online at all where Home Goods is concerned, until just recently when I realized that they had a website… this one, and I signed up for the email notices. I can’t even begin to express how terribly disappointed I am that Home Goods doesn’t offer online shopping though… I thought that might offer me an opportunity to still buy some of what I’d like to, but not have to bring my husband with me! With no online shopping, and our closest store being so far away, do they offer a sales flyer or anything at all through the mail? I realize that nothing, not a website for online shopping, or any flyer is going to cure my desire to be in the store where everything is right infront of me, but I thought maybe a sales flyer would get my husband motivated to make the trip with me a couple of times, and then I could probably find it on my own.
I realize that this post is becoming too long, but I’m a stay at home mother of six beautiful children ages 11, 9, 5 1/2, 4 1/2, 2 1/2, and just barely seven month old baby girl…. and I can’t afford to shop at the ‘other’ stores for my decorating needs. I have been able to get a little stash going for my Home Goods items, and now that I finally can finance the trip, I realize that the store is so far away! The post that I am replying to, which was written by Cathy shows such pretty organizing boxes. I want some, I want some!! But even more than the beautiful boxes, I want one of those sail boats that are in the photo too! When we moved into our modest, present home, we just couldn’t do a lot as far as decorating. My husband is a finish carpenter, builds homes, but also can build anything else and everything else… including furniture! I feel very blessed because he can build me organizational units for my closets, etc. and that’s the kind of projects that we’ve been working on. He is able to use literal scrap wood that others would throw away, left over crown moulding, etc. and he builds things for our home with. It makes me sooo happy! I would only be happier if I could get myself to the Home Goods store!!! I have a need for extra large photo frames right now, as I have artsy type of poster like things that I’ve found along the way and need to frame them before hanging them. They are size 16×20. Does anyone know if their local home goods store is carrying this size frame right now, or are these frames a usual item that they carry? I don’t think that I’ve ever bought frames of that size before.
After a ‘too long’ post, I’ll try to finish up here……. I am trying to do some more painting, as not all of our rooms were painted right after our moving in. I also need to repaint my kitchen because the color just isn’t working. I wallpapered the top two thirds of the wall because we have what I consider pretty high ceilings. I chose a trim color from a swatch of my wall paper and it matches nicely…. it’s basically an off white. But the color that I chose for the bottom one third of the wall is the problem. I chose a ‘taupe ish’ color and also brought the paper with me when I bought that paint too. It matches great, but is seeming very bland to me. I want to spice up my kitchen and then make curtains that have a bit of the color in them to match. Does anyone have any ideas? Here a few facts about my kitchen…. It’s bright, has a window, but also has glass sliding doors, so there is plenty of sunlight, it has some green tile work in it, which was alread done when we moved in. I will eventually choose something else with new counter tops, but for now, just sort of a ‘cheapie’ type of spruce up would really help my heart feel lighter. Also, I have linoleum in the kitchen, which is white with those famous, small dark green squares or diamonds, depending on which angle your’e looking at it from. Any/all suggestions would really be welcomed!
The sailboat in the photo above…. I haven’t painted the room that my two sons share. Although one of my boys is only 2 1/2 and the other is 9 1/2, I found myself trying to choose a theme for their room that wasn’t too babyish for my nine year old, but not too old for my littlest boy. I chose a nautical theme, have finally decided for sure on a very pretty, very light blue, and would like to make duvet covers with bed skirts and a matching curtain. The sailboat in the photo with the organizational boxes would match perfectly! I’m wondering if Cathy noticed how much they were in cost, if she happened to look? And I wonder how I might find out if our closest Home Goods has them also? I do realize that different stores carry different items… that makes me crazy by the way!! I might be missing out on something really great because it’s in a Home Goods store that is in another state??? I can’t stand the thought!!
I have other questions too, but realize that I’ve really over done it with my first post to you. I really love the supportive manner in which you all share here and encourage each other. I’m not a decorator, but I think my style is sort of shabby chic/cottagey (which can be difficult due to the white tones…. six children and two dogs with WHITE?? :-( I love romantic, elegant, and although I have a sincere appreciation for color, I love pastels I have figured out. I love the idea of a say flowery print couch and a striped chair with the same colors in both. Is there any hope for me considering I can’t get to a Home Goods store? We do have a TJ Maxx, and a Ross’ store close by and they at times can have decent home goods too, but nowhere near what their sister store has!
Thank You very much for reading my letter and again, I hope someone will write back with some great inspiration for me to get some of my projects done!
Just one more question…. Regarding those pretty organizational boxes, I realize that anyone can put anything in them, but what do you all specifically put in them say for your closet organization? I have photo boxes, and another type box for cards/stationary kind of things…. I’m just curious. I’m dying to buy some of those boxes, and would love to hear how you all used them specifically (if you have them) to help me fill them too… when I can get them, that is!
Thank You again… With warmest and most sincere appreciation,
Marie

8. Dear Marie,
We understand that you have been trying to locate frames and sailboats. As an off-price retailer, we make every effort to keep our prices low, and our costs down, so that we can pass these savings on to our customers. For this reason, we do not provide a service of tracking merchandise. In addition, we do not have the privilege of ordering specific merchandise from our vendors. To locate the frames and sailboats, we suggest that you continue to check with the stores in your area directly.
In addition, because each of our stores receives over 10,000 new items each week, it would be impossible for us to offer a catalog to our customers.
Thank you for your inquiry!

9. Hello Marie,
Welcome to this blog site! I’m glad you found us. First of all, I’m sorry there’s not a HomeGoods close by to you. Maybe in the near future you’ll get one in your area. In the meantime find a few friends and carpool once in a while to the closest one, make a fun shopping day of it. (then you don’t have to take your husband, LOL, they get bored easily, especially shopping.) About your kitchen… (the paint below your chair rail is bland, wallpaper above, green counter tile). Can you pick a brighter color for the paint below the chair rail? Pull a reddish color out of the wallpaper or one of the other brighter colors. That would also compliment the green tiles. Then add in other accents of red around the room. Window treatments, placemats, towels, canisters etc. That might help bring a little more pizzaz to the room.
Your sons rooms sounds great with the nautical theme. I’m sorry I didn’t get the prices on the cute sailboats in the photos. I would think they would be under $20. (Everythings so reasonable, I sometimes forget to look at the prices and just buy what I like.) They would look really great lined up on a shelf, or hung over the bed. Your husband could make some great shelves for them. I hope you can find them out there.
A few ideas for the fabric boxes in the photos…the leopard print boxes, I would use in a living/ family room to store magizines, remote controls, paperback books, afghans, coasters etc. The other bedroom boxes, jewerly, eyeglasses, lingerie, fragrance bottles, nice sweaters, nylon stockings, hats, purses, nice shoes, love letters and keepsakes from children.. You could even put a gift to someone in them and have the box be the “wrapping paper”. Then they would have 2 useable gifts. So many uses for them.
It was great reading your post. You sound like a fun lady with a wonderful family. Your home sounds like its something you take pride in and enjoy working on. Continued success on your decorating and write again soon.
Take Care, Cathy

10. Hi Marie,

Thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment on our customer blog. We really enjoy hearing from our customers, particularly one as passionate as you are!

You didn’t indicate where you live in South Carolina, but I wanted to make sure you are aware of the four locations in that state. I hope one is closer to you than Concord NC —
Greenville in the Greenridge Shopping Center (Marshalls and HomeGoods under one roof)
Mt. Pleasant in the Mt. Pleasant Shopping Center (again Marshalls and HG)
Myrtle Beach SC at 501 Power Center
Hilton Head Island (probably not as convenient - but beautiful!)

Be sure to check the store locator for accurate locations and directions.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and background on your beautiful family.

Best of luck,
Mary

11. Marie - I have been a Home Goods Shopper for a long time now but never looked for a web site ……until tonight. OMG!! Now I have this wonderful new place to talk with others regarding my “habit”.

I read the letter from Marie, regarding the fact that she is concerned that now that she has moved, driving to new locations for Home Goods really makes it tough. Well girl, have I got a deal for you. My husband bought me a Garmin GPS unit for Christmas. Now, at the time, I knew it was really a toy for him, since I NEVER have a problem finding places to shop, if I just have a map & and address. (Just lucky to have a good sense of direction and no fear of driving new places, I guess.) BUT - I have discovered it is a FABULOUS little invention for those of us who love to discover new places to shop! Simply enter in “Home Goods Store” in the shopping section and voila….up come the addresses and directions for the Home Goods stores nearest you and lists them in order of nearest and consecutively further away. It is AMAZING. It is relatively easy to operate and can give you all kinds of information and talks you right to the front door of your destination. Recently, we flew in to LA (we live in Wisconsin and don’t know LA at all!) and after we picked up our rental car, we simply set the GPS with the address in Laguna Hills that we were headed to and listened to the directions that the voice gives us, and we drove right up to the front door of our friends. It would be wonderful for someone to have who has moved to a new area and is unfamiliar with the area. You’ll find restaurants, gas stations, the court house, library, airports, etc. Everything is there for you.

Sorry to anyone who wonders why I would spend timne writing about this on this particular site, but I truly mean it that for those of us who love to find our Home Goods stores, you will really find this is a great little invention.

Debbie

P. S. I promise to write about decoration things next timne I am here. I am a decorative painter by vocation, a shopper by hobby, and an organizational fanatic by desire. So I will have fun reading everyone’s ideas!

12. Thanks for all the great information Debbie,

I had no idea those GPS systems were all calibrated to take you to a HomeGoods! LOL! That’s the only place we all need to go right? HA!
Yes, I hear they are great, especially for people that get lost easily like me. Thanks so much for all the info. We like to talk about anything and everything, so, glad you joined in.

Write back soon and glad you found us.

by Cathy — 3/5/08 at 7:41 pm #

13. You are welcome Cathy. I have even named my GPS unit. It’s directions are spoken in this soothing female voice and on the first day I put it in my car, I decided that “she” needed a name. So the given initials became Gina Patricia Scalzitti. (No idea where that popped into my brain from. Afterall, I am an Irish lass. No Italian in my family!) Anyway, we all just refer to it as Gina. So when the family and I or my girlfriends and I hit the road, we simply put the destination’s address into “Gina” and off we go!

Now - I have a question for Mary of Sudbury, MA. Mary, you put a photo into the “Customer Finds” area for us to see. You show a lovely tall urn that you found at Home Goods but don’t mention the 2 beautiful pictures hanging on the wall above the urn. Please tell me that those are available at Home Goods for the rest of us to find! (And if not H. G., then where ARE they available?) I would love to get a closer look at them. They are very interesting and appear to be a perfect choice for my bedroom. Would you please share that info with us? Thank you.

by Debbie — 3/6/08 at 1:57 am #

14. Hi Debbie,

So glad you and “Gina” and friends are having a good time on the road. At least she won’t lead you astray…LOL. You’ll never have the excuse, “sorry I’m late, I got lost”. HA.
I hope Mary writes back about the pictures.
Thanks for sharing Gina and the great story. We love our little gadgets, they make life easier.
Drop in again soon!

15. Marie,

I read your comments and just returned from South Carolina and there is a home goods in Myrtle Beach, SC. It is a very nice one. I am from Mass and love home goods — I have about 8 Home Goods stores at my disposal and none of them are more than 30 minutes away. I am blessed. I would not want an on line version of Home Goods as I love to go to the store and paw the merchandise and see what I am buying. As for storage items, you can find them many places, but HG have the best. Best of luck. RoseMary

by RoseMary — 5/19/09 at 12:15 pm #

16. Rosemary, Thanks for your comments to Marie. I hope she’ll join in again and read them. Wow, you’re so lucky to have so many HomeGoods stores near you. I have a couple and I’m so happy for those. You can’t beat all the great stuff. Yes, they do have really cute storage boxes and organizing merchandise. Glad you like it too.

I agree, an online version of HomeGoods would not have the appeal and excitment you get from going to the real thing!! It’s a “touchy feely” thing I guess.

Have fun and “be happy in HomeGoods”.
