As I continue to contimplate wall colors and stripes….I thought we could move into the family room. Ladies chalk one up for our team….I convinced my husband not to put a television in the “niche” over the fireplace!!!!!!!! I am not a fan of TV, especially when we are entertaining, hence the “man cave”. I told him he could put the television downstairs, and could possibly even fit in a large “flat screen”…mission accomplished!!!! Of course then my delimma was covering the power outlet and the cable connector…. My daughter had a brilliant idea in HomeGoods one day when she saw this mirror. I had the measurements with me, and sure enough a “perfect fit”. This will now be a wonderful spot for display and with power available there, the possibilities are endless!!!! The beautiful glass vase is also form HomeGoods, and this is the color I want for my one wall behind my sofa. Dramatic, I know, but I have to have a splash of color. The vase is from Spain, and made from recycled glass….the company is ECOGLASS and I have fallen in love with the look….so URBAN…hahaha Stay tuned for more!

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Alli,
Your house is coming together nicely. I love the floors and your combination of the houndstooth print with the zebra area rug. Very chic and urban. Great place for the mirror and colored vase. I see now where you want to pull the blue in on a wall. Its looking very stylish!!

3. Hi Alli,

Everything is looking beautiful! I love the black and white with the blue injected. Great team work with your family in alignment!

4. I love the houndstooth chair and combining it with the zebra rug is a great choice. You are very brave to choose such a bright, bold color for an accent wall. Such a “cool” color. I have never done anything more daring than red and I love that! Can’t wait to see more!

5. Wow Alli,
Things are really starting to coe together for you…I LOVE the houndstooth and zebra items and what you did with the mirror too…I am having fun just seeing what you are doing at your new townhouse…where you able to move furnishings from your other place or starting from scratch? We actually brought nothing from home yet to our place in Florida..it is such a different look from our family homestead in Western New York that I wanted to start fresh..thats where Homegoods in Venice Florida comes into play for me. One question how do people get large pieces of furniture home from the store? Do they provide a delivery service of any kind? We don’t hae a truck in Florida? I love your pictures..Happy decorating Margie

6. Thanks Betty and Lynn,
I know it is a little scary to think about such a strong color…but you know, it’s only paint…..I can always change it if it doesn’t come out right.
Kind of like getting your hair cut in a new style, it’s just hair…it will grow back!
I will keep you posted on the progress…

7. Hi Alli, it’s my first visit to the web-site and I was just looking for directions to this Homegoods store after having several friends tell me I need to check it out. We just moved into our newly finished house and I was wondering if you could send me a close up of your fire place mantlle that was pictured in your living room. I am looking for idea’s to have my carpenter build a custome mantle for our fire place and thouhgt yours was very attractive. I have LOTS of decorating ahead! I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and wishing I could hire an interiour designer. Maybe I will pick up lots of tips here on this web-site!

11. Hi Margie,
We started from scratch in our new home as well….we only brought a dining room table and a couple of guest room beds….but my houses are very different as well, and it is nice to buy furniture for a specific house…
In answer to your question, HomeGoods does not deliver, I have asked many times….you have to contact an independent moving company to move large items. the folks at my HG are very accomodating, they helped the guys load up the furniture from the curb in front of the store.
I know you are anxious to get back to Florida, please submit some pictures so we can see you home…I already know I will LOVE it!
Take care my friend,

12. Hi Alli, Thanks for all the helpful information about the delivery situation with Homegoods. I knew their was a reason we have a truck in New York State. How is your project with the striped wall coming? Have you decided on anything? Cathy also suggested that I might want to consider horizontal stripes on my wall? Something to think about. All I know is that whatever I end up buying for my Florida house I will probably have the rest of my life..so I better really like it. I may bring down some of my favorite personal belongings like antique baskets and family photos but like you the house is a completely different look from what I have In New York State. Bes tof luck to you and I hope all your new neighbors are as nice as the ones I have in my new developement in Florida..Take care, Margie

13. I just love black and white because you can pretty much throw any bold color with it…and change that accent color out as your mood (or season) changes! Thanks for sharing your progress…getting lots of ideas from you! I’m in the process of changing my family room to be more “colonial contemporary” – something like this would work well!

15. Nice choices on the furniture and accessories. The room is lovely. I am not sure about the blue paint on the wall over the sofa. It may take away from the fireplace which seems to be a natural focual point of the room. It is hard to tell from only two photos. Also I would like to see the rug placed under the coffee table with the other pieces of furniture partially on it. I think it will anchor the room and the seating group. The rug doesn’t seen to have purpose in front of the fireplace. Just wanted to share my honest opinion. I am sure the room will look lovely in the end.

17. If you’re going to use a blue wall try to incorporate that color somewhere else in the room. Or….. you could paint the other corresponding walls in a lighter color so all the furniture pops and takes advantage of the white fireplace. Rug, sofa pillows, throw, etc. Why is there no seating by the fireplace? This could be the focal point of the room. Try different locations of the furniture. Don’t like the zebra rug with the hounds tooth chair. Reupolster the hounds tooth in a blue print to go with the wall color.

18. Thanks for the ideas Judy….
Starting from ground zero, gets pretty costly….I definitely will continue to add to the room as budget see fit…..(I hate that word budget! hahaha)
Keep checking in on the progress and again thanks for visiting the site!

19. Hi Alli,
I am in need of suggestions for the niche over the fireplace. Just today we had the new TV installed on an adjacent wall (looks great). But now we have the bare niche. After dusting it out and using a lot of touchup paint it looks fresh but SO empty. I love what you did with the mirror and plant! My question is this. How did you affix the mirror? Is it leaning, hanging or what? I would really appreciate some help with this question. Now, of course, I have to find just the right mirror. Shopping I will go … :

by Sheryl — 2/24/08 at 8:44 pm #

20. Hi Sheryl,
So glad you like the mirror….it is a combo of both. It is sitting on the base of the niche, but my husband was afraid it would fall over, so he attached it at the top with wire, just for safety.
Good luck in your search, HG has some wonderful mirrors.
Take care,
alli
