…Is Nothing More Than A Summers Wave Goodbye.

HG misc. 008

I’m always a little sad to see summer go, even though our seasonal changes are minimal here in southern California. The days will get shorter and a little cooler, instead of 80s and 90s, it will be in the 70s…It seems the only thing that fades and changes color here … are tan lines, and the orange and yellow that fall off trees… are oranges and lemons, (at least they’re fall colors). Yes, we have it rough, but, we embrace the season just the same.

I haven’t done too much Fall decorating yet. Just a few vases with small apples, pears and fading hydrangeas from my yard. Some real-looking leaves, ( I would have used real but none to find). Add a few tall twigs and a little Fall can be had by all.

Enjoy all that the season has to offer. Nature paints a beautiful picture this time of year for all to see and enjoy… (if you can just look past the palm trees).

1. Hi Cathy,

What a gorgeous display! It’s warm and comforting. I love the fall and these wonderful pictures share what the beauty of Fall is all about! I also love the way you did the arrangement in your home of Fall decoration. Thank you for making Fall come alive in our minds and hearts first, then in the changes in our homes.

I must say that I am looking forward to the holidays, but not the spending (smile).

2. Thanks so much Betty,
Yes, Fall is a beautiful time of year. Are any trees changing color yet where you live back east? We do have a few trees that change color later in the season, but nothing like the cooler climates.
Enjoy the upcoming holidays.

3. You’ve given me some great ideas for my terracota red living room! As much as I love fall, it is bittersweet when I think about the long, inevitable Connecticut winter! Fall colors help to make that sensitive transition. Thanks for sharing!

4. Thanks Susan,
Nice to hear from you again. Yes, enjoy the Fall because winter will be forthcoming. I haven’t always lived in southern Ca. I’ve had my taste of cold weather as a kid living in North and South Dakota and Nebraska. (Air Force Brat). I think I’ll stay put. Hope your winters not too bad.
Thanks for checking in. write back soon.

6. Hi Cathy,

The fall leaves are really interesting. I like the way that you used the glass containers to decorate with the artifical fruit and petals.

7. Hi Lari,
Yes, the colors in the fall leaves are so beautiful to decorate with, you don’t need flowers. In fact flowers would take away from the impact the leaves make by themselves. Your centerpieces sound beautiful. Enjoy!

8. Thank you Karen,
I love all the clear tall glass containers. They can be filled with all kinds of fall material…. small pumpkins, nuts, acorns, loose leaves, rose hips, small squash or ghords, wheat, dried flowers, branches, Indian corn standing on end with the husks sticking out of the vase, small balls of yarn with knitting needles sticking out, a million other things can be displayed.
Thanks for your comment

9. This season is truly my favorite. Mostly because of the wonderful fragrances! I have done more fall decorating that you would think that it is Christmas with orange and golds in my home. I also include my front porch in my fall display. My front porch is known as the house with the black hutch on the porch! I love to find new pieces to put into the hutch for each season. This year lanterns are my favorite, either filled with candles on the front porch or gourds and pumkins! I love it.

10. Lynn,
How are you doing? Good to hear from you. I love your black hutch on your front porch to welcome guests with each seasons display of decorations. What a great and welcoming idea. I bet you have so much fun changing out the decorations from season to season. I love to hear how people use their furnishings in different and unique ways. Its all about creativity and you’ve got it!
Talk again soon.

11. I love the pictures that are entitled “A Falling Leaf.” The look is traditional, but very hip - the colors just pop! Great look, it give me some ideas since we are doing some renovations in my home in Hamitlton Square, NJ.

Thanks.

13. Lari, Just moved to S. Calif from NY. I am missing Autumn for the first time. In an attempt to recreate I decorated with silk leaves,Japanese lanterns and berries. I have white pumpkins all over the house. I am now collecting pine cones and pods from the Magnolias that have been falling with the Santa Anna winds. Beautiful weather here. Yesterday NY had sleet with temps as low as 25 already. BRRRRRRRR!!!!! (Don’t miss that) Thank you for you display of Autumn. Great Ideas. Suzanne

14. Hi Suzanne
Thank you so much,
Welcome to So. Cal. Yes, you’ll miss the Autumn your use to…but not the winter! You’ll love the weather here. We do get cooler and have some color change, but not as dramatic as your use to. It sounds like you’re decorating with some beautiful natural local color. I’m sure it looks great, and brings a little Autumn in that you’ve missed. Just remember, when the people you left are shoveling snow on their driveway, you can be shoveling sand on the beach! LOL. You’ll get acclamated real soon, hang in there!
