This is actually going to be another crock pot recipe post. However, we are also going to add a new backsplash to our kitchen in the next few weeks, so I thought I could give you a before picture here instead of another picture of my crock pot!
Ilene sent a request earlier today for a recipe for pork roast, so I wanted to share my family’s favorite. We have enjoyed this meal on New Year’s Day for many years. My dear mother in law said that it is a German tradition, although I never asked her why . . . LOL
New Year’s Pork and Sauerkraut
1 pork roast
1/2 to 1 pound polish sausage
4 - 5 potatoes peeled and cubed
1 large onion in chunks
2 apples thickly sliced
16 oz. Bavarian Sauerkraut
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups chicken broth, white wine, or apple juice
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp. cloves
A dash of cinnamon
Pepper to taste
Layer first six ingredients in your crock pot. Mix together the last seven ingredients and heat until brown sugar is dissolved. Pour over everything in the crockpot. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 5 hours.
This recipe is a little more involved than the last, but I believe it is well worth the effort. Enjoy the wonderful aroma that fills your home, and Guten Appetit!
1. Thanks for the recipe.
In your remodeling efforts, I hope you are going to remove the wallpaper, or at least, minimize it so that it is pleasing to the eye.

2. I have been eating pork, dumplings, and sauerkraut since I was a kid. At 44, I absolutely love to cook this for my family. Isn’t it a wonderful meal?

3. Dre, I hope you enjoy the recipe! We are adding a backsplash, so the wallpaper below the cabinets is going. It actually is not on every wall in the room, which is hard to tell from the picture. Thanks for your thoughts.

6. Rainboweyes, First of all, how great is your online name, either you have the most gorgeous eyes or your level of optomism is above the norm. Either way its great. I did think this meal had something to do with blessings for the New Year, but I wasn’t sure I was remembering correctly. Thanks so much for sharing your info with us. I am learning so much from our readers. You’re the best!
