I am loving having the “niche” over my fireplace……It provides such a great area to decorate!
I cannot imagine wasting this great space with a television! hahahah My husband would proably not agree…..I wanted to share with you my display for Thanksgiving. I simply took branches from a curly willow tree and added some “bittersweet berries” and a centerpiece was made! You don’t get much easier than that. The plates on the bottom are some I found at TJ Maxx many years ago, and I will also use them on my table for the month of November. The candles in the back are actually battery operated, so no danger of fire. The seagrass trukey was a gift from my mother, also many years ago. You can always add to your holiday decorations from year to year, and sometimes get bargains for the next year at after holiday sales! Happy Decorating!

1. That is really really ugly. No imagination… Old’fashioned grandma looking.

3. The harvest look isn’t about looking trendy. It’s warm, about family and food. Your display says harvest in a classy way. I like your item placement, and it’s always nice to use special seasonal pieces year after year, especially those that are gifts

4. PS. The plates may be making it seem a wee bit cluttered and may be what sparked the old fashioned comment above. I can see where the plates could lend a great Victorian or Ethan Allen kind of look, but they do give the fireplace an old fashioned air that might not be what you’re going for, simply because of what they’re surrounded by.

5. Allii, I really like your mantel decorations. I keep looking for a mantel for our fireplace. We have a huge wall mirror, but no place to put anything. For girls who like to decorate we need places to PUT stuff. I love the branches and berries, what a wonderful natural look . . . brings the change of seasons right into the house. Your plates are beautiful as well. Part of decorating for the holidays is bringing out those cherished items that bring back wonderful memories of loved ones and our times together. I hope you continue to have many wonderful memories to add from this year’s celebration.

6. Thanks Laura,
I am a stickler for tradition, and it is important to me to use things that have sentimental meaning. The fact that everyone is different and have different styles in decorating is what “makes the world go round”……I am glad you are enjoying the site and I hope you will visit often.
Have a wonderful holiday season.
happy decorating,

8. Hi Alli,
You have a wonderful inspirational collection that reflects the season. The branches and berries are doubled in the mirror and speak to a bountiful harvest. The plates announce its a season of feasting, the candles add “warmth” and ” light”. A “gift” means its a season of giving to others. All in All, a wonderful display to reflect on, and be inspired to give thanks.
Thanks for sharing it.

18. hi! again, i love the ideas…here is one for you from me…you can use it next year
I collected branches from trees with my 2 year old son, which he loved. He saved a few…one is a horse, the other a sword..how he knows what a Knight is…that is beyond me!
I used a thick paint brush and craft glue, the clear kind and then sprinkled them with “sugar” white” and silver glitter. The finished look makes them appear to be frozen. I put them on my mantle with white strings of twinkle lights and silver glass ball ornaments. I have also used fresh cut pine boughs with them. They look great all day, but at night, with the twinkle lights on and the room lights off, it really looks incredible!

20. I’m looking for a Native American/Indian girl that Homegoods and Tjmaxx were selling around Thanksgiving time for ,I think it was 19.99 Anyone know if any of your stores still have one I might purchase? She is about 19 inches tall and was made out of resin, but it looked like it was carved from wood..Appreciate you reading this.. Have a great day..

21. Hi Dale,
Recently at my HomeGoods, they had a grouping of “harvest” items in the clearance section…look for the red bannner that says “clearance”. I will check my store for you….good luck with your search and happy holidays!
