So often we see pine cones on the ground around our homes and in the streets and never really think about their value. However, when decorating for the holidays, consider making use of the pine cones and the natural richness that they bring. I decided to include the pine cones with the other major decorative pieces that are included for the holiday.
Now, if you decide not to pick them up from around the house and on the ground, you can buy a bag of pine cones, included with thika pods and other natural objects of this size from a store like Michael’s for less then $3.00. Then, you can spray paint them any color that you wish. I decided on gold. You can use this decor all year if you wish.

You can decide what color is best for you. You can incorporate them with candles, put them in a glass vase and add a berry spray, add them as decor on your holiday table, put them in a basket as I did, etc. I wanted my arrangement to look like a precious gold find. I like adding these with the major holiday decorations. To buy a bag of gold pine cones will cost more then 5 times the cost of the natural bag ($3.00). Try it! You might like it!
1. Betty,
This is Great!!! I love decorating with pine cones, and your idea inspires me! Pine cones are plentiful in NC, and once I even dipped them in scented wax, bundled them up and gave them as fireplace starters for the holidays….
Thanks for the inspiration!

3. Hi Betty,
I love pine cones. They’re such a wonderful natural element to decorate with. Most of the time they are free if you have trees to collect from.
They would look lovely stacked in one of those really tall clear vases.
Or tied or glued guned on gifts, or spray painted white and hang on the tree. So many things you can do with pinecones. Love your display!

4. Hi Cathy,
Thank you so much for your sharing and your comments! The pine cones are some of the most versatile natural gifts that nature provides. I just noticed today how the pine cone is draped in a long chain adorning a Christmas tree in an upscaled boutique. It was intricately sprayed red and green. It was a gorgeous sight.
Thank you for sharing and making us all aware of some of the imaginative ways that they can use pine cones.

5. Hi Betty,
Long time and no comments from me. My work is rough. I like the idea of pine cones sprayed. I love them and always thinking of ways to include them in my Christmas and holiday decorations. I like what some of the other people said about decorating with them. I am going to use these ideas. Carla

7. I agree pine cones are great for decor during the holidays. I use them quite a bit. I have spray painted mine both gold and copper (the copper is a great look on them). I have also had glitter to small spray painted ones and used on my tree each year. They look great set back in the brackes the gold/copper and glitter has an elegant glimmer to a tree. You could use just about any color that fits with your decor. I also have filled colored glass bowls with them set on a table, or down the center of a table runner with candles throughout makes a lovely tablescape, and used on place setting with a name tag attached works quite well also. I have collected them from memorable trips with my family, which makes them even more special when I use them at the holidays.

8. Wonderful Debbie!
How exciting! You sound like a first-class decorator that makes gold out of ashes. I love your ideas! I love the idea of the copper paint on the pine cones, with sprinkled glitter. I also love how you make the pine cones a part of the decorations on the dinner table in multiple ways.
I had this belief when I was a kid that if I painted the pine cones and acorns gold, they would bring me great wealth. It is amazing that you keep that concept in the back of your mind about the majic of these beautiful and natural jewels. I still paint them gold. Thanks for reminding us of their versatility. Keep sharing with us, because we look forward to hearing from you.

10. Hi Juan,
That is wonderful! I am so happy to know that you are able to make money from painting and selling the pine cones. That is so great! Another person above indicated that she painted the cones copper colored and sprinkled them with glitter. I hope that you put the glitter on some of the pine cones that you painted, because that could mean more money for you and your family. By having your family help, it creates a great bonding activity. Good luck to you Juan and continue to make money. Maybe one day we might be reading about you and your success that came about as a result of the creative ideas that you were able to get from the HomeGoods site.
Keep in touch and let us know how you continue to make out. Be blessed and Happy Holidays!!!

14. Hi Cynthia,
Isn’t it wonderful how your adrenaline is flowing to do these exciting things with something so simple and naturally rich as pine cones? The glue gun is perfect for gluing pine cones to the wreath or other decorations. (Smile) Now just think, if you should glue your hands, you can get the glue off by immediately washing your hands with warm water and soap. I can tell that you are going to do some exciting things this year with the pine cones, the sprinkle glitter, and the glue gun. Good luck and let us know how you make out. We are waiting to hear what happens.
Have a wonderful and exciting Thanksgiving!

16. Hi Jennifer,
You sound like a collector of pine cones (smile). I can really understand how you have gotten to a point that you keep an eye out for beautiful pine cones. The natualness of natures gift makes you aware of how awesome the universe is. I have never heard of adding cinnamon spices to the basket of pine cones. I am going to try this and let you know what joy I get.
Thank you so much for sharing. We look forward to hearing from you again. Have a remarkable holiday and a wonderful Christmas!

17. A few years back I purchased a wire frame from a craft store and wired medium-sized pinecones onto it. I spray painted them white, then a lighter coat of silver and gold, making the end result a bronze color. Each year I do something different. One year I added small silver balls and hung it on my wooden gate outside, and another year I added a red bow and put it on the front door. I made one for our daughter, and she likes to lay it flat on her dining table or coffee table during the holidays. Just yesterday I found a large clear vase in a thrift store for $5. One of the things I plan to use it for is packing it full of nuts and pinecones for the fall.

18. Hi Dee,
You sound like another smart and creative lady that could have a great business going on! I can picture the pine cones and their beauty and selective decoration around your home. Each year, it seems like you try something different and exciting. keep improvising and decorating and start thinking in tems of making it profitable for yourself and family. There was another blogger that said that he and his family were finding the cones and painting them and bagging them from bags that they brought at the Dollar Store. Check #9 above. When you have these great decorative ideas, why not make them profitable.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide to do. Happy decorating!!!
