Yes, I know its early to be decorating for Christmas (my husband thinks I’m nuts) when Thanksgiving hasn’t even arrived yet, but I wanted to post some pictures and show some easy ideas that you might want to try before you get into Holiday decorating.

This year, I wanted to update and add-to the Christmas decorations I already have, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I like the DAMASK design trend going on, especially the black and white, and wanted to incorporate it into my old decorations, at least for Christmas anyway.

A little Damask pattern (or any pattern you like) goes along way. Don’t go overboard, just a little of a strong pattern, will freshen and update without redoing everything. In upcoming posts, as I decorate more, I’ll talk more about how I incorporated this design into things I already have. It might inspire you to update if you want a little change.

Very little money was spent, because STENCILING is the trick here. You can stencil anything… old white plates, throw pillows, stockings, table runner, and even “slipcover” art on your wall. More to show you soon, so check back if you’re interested.

I have more to do in this room, (tree yet to do). This is a little preview of what I’ll be doing this year. I don’t overdecorate, I just like a few areas with some impact and the rest fairly simple. I think TOO much Christmas clutter can distract from the feel you want to create, (as with clutter in non-Holiday decor). I like to keep it simple but festive.

(Yes, the window is open, its been 90 degrees here , somehow, 90* and Christmas don’t quite mix …caught myself humming, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”… no chance of that :)

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Hi Cathy,

Your place looks beautiful and very comfortable! I love the way that you have intergrated the Christmas decorations in with the changes that you have made in your livingroom. It’s a very chic, soft and beautiful look. You are one of the many people that have started decorating earlier this year. It’s a longer time that you give yourself an opportunity to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the holidays!

Have a Happy and memorable Thanksgiving!!!

4. Hi Betty,

Thank you for your nice remarks, you’re always so kind. We’re not having Thanksgiving at my house (like you) this year, so I thought I’d get a little Christmas headstart. Also I didn’t want to box up the stuff I made to decorate so out they went. I’m not one to keep decorations up too long after Christmas so we’ll enjoy now.
Have a great Thanksgiving as well, (at least we don’t have to worry about the Big meal at our homes this year, yea!)

7. ThankYou Julie,

I’m glad you like the stenciling ideas. Its such an easy and inexpensive way to decorate but adds a lot of punch to all your old stuff. Check back and I’ll show more of what can be done with stencils.
Thanks for writing, you’re the best!

8. I am having a problem trying to figure out what color to paint my livingroom I have a huge livingroom and a kitchen overlooking the livingroom. The colors that I am using in my livingroom is red and gold (solid gold couch) with red assessories it is like a yellowish color now but I don’t know what is popular now in homes and I wanted to update since I lived there for 8 years now. Thanks for your help, Sherri Outlaw

9. Hello Sherri,

You say you need a paint color for your living room…large space, gold sofa, red accents…
Have you thought of a nice green color for the walls? It would work wonderful with your other colors.( a Triadic color scheme). A light to medium warm green color, (yellow undertones). Look in this color range, Home Depot, Behr paint, 400 series, Dried Palm, Corn Husk Green, Grass Cloth. Something in those shades should work for you. (or which ever paint you like).
The green colors are and will be popular as forcasted interior colors. Partly because of the ” Green “environmental awareness and because they are easy to live with, calm relaxing, nature inspired. I think you’ll like the look.
Let me know what you think.
