Are you getting ready to trim that tree? Or are you one of those people who waits until the very last minute? I am pretty excited this year, I plan on decorating early. I have been busily putting ideas together, and shopping for new ornaments to use and to give as gifts.
As I was pondering the various rooms in my home and trying to decide whether I will carry one theme throughout the house, or vary it by room and decor. I wondered what some of you might be doing in your homes.
Do you enjoy a Homespun Style, a Traditional Look, a White Christmas, or are you a Thoroughly Modern Mille. As I was looking at ornaments the other day, I realized that whatever your style, whatever your hobby, background, or personaliity you can reflect it in the way you enhance your home for the holiday.
Do you have so many decorations that you have to put away your regular accent pieces to make room for the yearly makeover? Please share your thoughts and ideas with us, we love to know what our friends are doing to make the season bright!
Once again I found these great pictures at GettyImages.com.
1. Great points to ponder Deb…..
Even tho I will be in a new house this year, I am sure my tree will look about the same. I guess i am a traditionalist, i like things on my tree that have always been there. Now, that is not to say I don’t “add’ new each year…LOL, but the old will be there as well.
I discovered many years ago that my daughter was allergic to real trees!
I invested in a very realistic “faux” tree, I have replaced it only once with a pre-lit version. I love it! No mess, no watering, and the branches are strong enough to hold many many ornaments. It still looks “different every year…..and now with all the wonder home fragrances and aroma candles i don’t even miss the “Christmas smell”,,,,,I can put it up the day after Thanksgiving and not have to take it down until New Years!!
Deb, you have made me so excited to get started!!!! Thanks for your post!

2. Deb definitly the traditional look which also be incorporated into this home spun look a bit of both. I have a tiny space I mean u sit to close to fridge u get hit with the door so am limited on table spaces I like I can use floor space for a basket, and room for a tree there nothing like a real tree, and now I will try some pinecone ornaments for it also I havent gone through it . I had these lovely cross’s for my tree hope I can find them this year
I bit heartbreaking they meant alot to me. After all jesus is the reason for this season that I love u gave great ideas on hear then I said wow I did a bit of natural crafts no glitter glue and such but will add more and make it a bit jazzy this year. Its always a time of year for a bit of magic in the air

3. Hi Deb,
It’s funny…I bought new decor for the tree last year, and for the life of me, don’t remember what they look like! I guess I’ll have a nice surprise when I bring up the boxes this year. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Also, my daughter’s birthday is 4 days before Christmas, so I put a small artificial “birthday” tree in her room. I’m thinking of replacing it with a more attractive wire tree – it looks a bit tacky as is. Perhaps a party hat on top instead of a star? I’ll post a pic of it when I get it!

4. Thanks Alli, Chythia, and Susan,
I too am so excited about decorating, that for the first time ever I am starting before Thanksgiving. I am heading out soon to get new lights, candles, etc. Then tomorrow we get busy!!!
Alli, I can’t wait to see what you do with the new place. We have had an artificial tree for years because of allergies. I use lots of cinnamon and pine scented candles to make it smell like Christmas.
Cynthia, You added some great ideas. I too place crosses and nativity ornaments on the tree and around the house as a precious reminder of the reason we are celebrating.
Susan, I checked out Rooms That Work. A great site. I am with you on trying to remember what I have from the previous year. I actually opened boxes yesterday, to try to refresh my memory. I do believe that this year I am going to take more pictures so I don’t have to recreate the wheel again next year. Although, I do like to give freedom to my creative side as well. I also love your ideas for the tree in your daughter’s room. What a precious gift you got for Christmas the year she was born!!
Thanks to you all, Deb

5. Hi Deb,
Yes, my little girl is the gift that keeps on giving! She’ll be 7 this year. Thx for the compliments on my website…it’s a labor of love! I’m so lucky that I found a productive outlet for my little creative self! Keeps me sane!

6. Hello Deb,
I have an artificial tree I’ve used for many years. We moved from a bigger house to this house and the tree I used in my family room there, is the one I use here. We would have a big live one there, but no room here, so this one works out fine. I like to change a few things on the tree each year, nothing major, just a freshen it up a little. Sounds like you’re busy putting up your tree. Hope you post it, love to see your decorations.
Have a great Thanksgiving Deb !

7. It’s Labor Day and I had to work-but I wasn’t busy at all-so I spent almost the entire day reviewing your HG site…I absolutely love it and now I’m hooked. I’m going home to take pictures of all the wonderfully beautiful stuff I’ve gotten at HG and will show you what I’m talking about! My house is full of HG stuff and it looks like I spent a million bucks and maybe I have…but I’m worth it!
