This year, I still have a good 80% of my shopping left to do. So, I am going to brave the crowds, and head to out to shop on the dreaded, but heavily anticipated, Black Friday. Touted as the biggest shopping day of the year, although technically, its not, Black Friday really represents the first official shopping day of the Christmas season. Stores open as early as 5am with all sorts of at the door specials.

There are a ton of terrific websites devoted to Black Friday, where you can actually see the circulars all the big chain stores put out to advertise their top deals. Try www.blackfriday.info, www.bfads.net and www.blackfriday.gottadeal.com, but a search on Google for “Black Friday” will reveal a ton more.

For electronics, must-have toys, DVDs, games. and stuff, Black Friday seems well worth the hassle this year. A few big electronic retailers are advertising one day sales on laptops, some as low as $300 – a steal, when I think how much I paid for my Sony VAIO less than 5 years ago…

Haven’t gotten a single gift yet? Don’t panic. There actually are busier shopping days than Black Friday – those weekends right before Christmas.

Are you guys going to brave Black Friday? What are your shopping tips and tricks? Let us know!

Let’s make this holiday season one to remember!

1. Hello Evette,
My family has a die hard tradition of working off those Thanksgiving dinner calories by storming the shops on Black Friday. Unfortunately, year after year, I find myself walking around the malls aimlessly, completely uninspired for gift ideas, and then returning home empty handed and defeated. However, this year I am much more confident, now that I have an new inventory of ideas from your “Gift Giving Tips.”

I loved your idea of the Culinary Christmas Tree! All of your ideas were very unique, thoughtful, and personal. I’m truly looking forward to Black Friday now!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

2. Hello Evette,
I’m going to try to stay away from the stores this Friday. I’m not a glutton for punishment… (It should be called BLACK and BLUE Friday). LOL. I’ll wait until next week to get more done. I do like to get all my shopping done early. Then I can relax and enjoy all the festivities leading up to Christmas, without having to worry about shopping.
Good luck with your shopping. Let us know if you survive Friday, if you dare to venture out.
Happy Turkey Day,
Cathy

3. Hi Evette,

I have not really shopped on Black Friday, because the crowds are too much. However, I am looking to purchase some electronic gifts for my grandkids this year and Black Friday might be my “saving grace.” I want to save as much as I can. Thanks for reminding me and others of the savings. As much as the crowd can be overwhelming, the buys are even better. I’ll take my chance this year and try to get through the maze to get what I want to purchase.

Have a tremendous and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
