For the Holidays I wanted to change the floral artwork above my fireplace, but I didn’t want to take all the pictures apart to change them. I decided to “slipcover” them with the Damask stencil theme I’m using for Christmas. I used regular poster board and cut 6 pieces to fit on top of the glass. I measured and painted the red borders and stenciled 6 different pattens. I used double stick tape to attach them temporarily to the permanent artwork. After Christmas I’ll just remove them and return to the original art.
This was a simple and easy solution and helped tie the Damask theme together and give more impact to the fireplace wall.

1. Cathy,
Great idea! (as usual)….I love the branches! What is holding them in place? I can’t tell from the photograph.
Great post!

5. Hi Alli,
Thanks so much. The branches are held in a tall clear vase. Inside the vase are a half a string of clear lights and a little bit of ceder leaves pressed up against the glass to hide the lights. The branches have tiny bits of glass/plastic pieces glued to the branches. They just stand up in the vase on their own. Real simple.
Talk again soon my friend,

6. Hi There Julie,
Yes, the brain gets tired as well as the body… but there always seems to be something else I want to try , but, it has to be easy, cheap and fun and I’ll give it a try.
Yes, this could work for lots of art. A little temporary change is always nice.
Thanks so much.

10. Oh Cathy!
The multiple talents that you possess! This is a great idea! I love the way that you maintain the red, black and white decoration. Great work!

11. Hello Betty,
Thank you so much. Not so much talent, as looking for ways of doing things easily and cheaply. My motto…where there’s a will, there’s a way”, or… “sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t”.
Thanks so much for your nice comments, as always.

14. Cathy:
I loved the artwork up on the mantile. That is a fabulous and very creative itdea. I always think that I love how my house looks decorated for the holiday and than when you take it all done in January it always looks so dull..you could definatley change it up with changing the artwork like you did here with an inexpenisve and fun way. Thank you so much for sharing this great idea.
have a great holiday!

15. Hello Judy,
Thank you for your great comments. I agree, once all the decorations come down after Christmas, it looks a little dull. But, thats a great time to look at all your regular furnishings and change them around a little, rearrange the furniture, reposition accessories, etc. Then you have a fresh new look for the new year and you won’t miss the Christmas decorations.
Thanks so much for writing in.
Happy Holidys to you.

16. I love all the black and white! …especially the pics. Another idea is to use pretty Christmas boxes or old (recycle/reuse) christmas cards and frame those. I did a collage in my “den/playroom” it turned out really cute! I just cute the box lids down to size.

17. Hi Lori,
Thank you so much. What a great idea you have as well, to frame boxes Christmas cards, wrapping paper or …. There is so much “accidental art” out there to be used and reused. Never throw anything out until you think through what else you can do with it. ( I’m famous for this, ask my husband)!
Thanks for taking time to drop by!
