Christmas 07 113

Are you bored to death of my posts yet? If not, there’s more…(lucky you). We can’t forget the kitchen. I can’t think of one thing I’ve stenciled in here, ( whats wrong with me!). but, I did paint black and white stripes on the topiary pots in the window. They are just clay pots, painted white, then striped. I had some old garden topiary forms and stuffed old pine garland (yes, everything I have is old, no, recycled). in them to make the topiaries. Then wired on some red berries. The top finials are balls painted gold. You could easily use small wire tomato cages, paint them green or leave as is, stuff the cage with pine garland, turn them upside down in a painted pot that fits. Add lights if you like. Stick a gold painted styrofoam ball, or other finial, on the pointy ends . A great decoration!

I like the ornate curving lines of the Damask plate pattern, a nice contrast to the straight geometric line of the checks. They compliment each other. Red is always a good accent with the black and white. Strong colors, never boring.

It always seems like happy memories are made in the kitchen, from yummy Holiday dishes our families look forward to, or just the comfortable conversation that goes on there. The kitchen is the heart of the home especially at Christmas.

2. Kathy,
I was brousing thru the Home Goods site and came across your blog. I just had to take the time to write and tell you what terrific taste you have. Your house looks gorgeous. I too have a house where the rooms flow into each other. I try to stick to similar color schemes so as to “marry” the rooms. What a great look you have in you home.

6. Thanks so much Dena,

I’m glad you’re enjoying the site. You have the right idea about tieing open floor plans together. Color is an important element of design. It is a unifying principle of design as well. Applied with balance and proportion you can create a harmonious atmosphere in your home. There… you’ve just learned Color Theory 101. It sounds like you know this already.
Thanks again for your nice comments.

10. Hi Cathy, I was very busy for the 5 weeks I spent at the house in Florida..also had a girlfriend come visit and took her to Sanibel, Captiva, Boca Grande, St. Armands..lots of Tropical places…ordered a sleeper sofa, small leather chair and end table for my den..they will deliver it when I get back Jan 1..had furniture for my master bedroom delivered and a nice wine buffet for my large front hall which is across from my kitchen (I plan to use it for entertaining) Also made many trips to Homegoods in Venice and Estero Florida and picked up some accent pieces..so I am making headway but still have a long way to go. Your home looks beautiful and you are definately ready for the Holidays..I actually started baking my Christmas cookies today…Take care and thanks for responding to my comments on your beautiful posts…Margie
