I am a self confessed procrastinator, so invariably I have found myself running to the store at the last minute to come up with a gift for a neighbor, a friend, or to take to an open house as a gift for the hostess.
Those days are behind me . . . well almost. Now, I keep a supply of generic gifts on hand, so that I am always ready with a suitable item. These are just a few of the things I like to keep on hand: candles, journals and pens, bottles of wine, beautiful frames, bottles of lotion, teacups or china dishes with a votive candle or wrapped in a kitchen towel, boxes of candy, books, cds . . . The list I’m sure could go on and on.
I still procrastinate on a lot of things, but hopefully when I need that last minute gift to brighten someone’s day; I will find the perfect item in my celebration stash!
1. Hello, I work in a small store, and everyone gets each other a gift, nothing extravagant just a token of friendship to one another. I sometimes would bake and give some baked goods in a pretty container, now someone else does that. I am stummed, finances are a little tighter this year and I would love some ideas of what I can make or buy that is economical. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

2. Hi Deb,
Its good to keep a few things on hand for last minute gifts. All of your ideas are great. I do the same. A few things I try to have on hand are ingredients to whip up a quick batch of cookies, nice calendars for the new year, write a card telling them you’ve bought them a subscription to a favorite magazine…then subscribe them.
I hope more of you write with your last minute gift ideas.
Thanks for the good info. I’ll use it.

3. Cathy,
Thanks for your additional ideas. I agree, I am so looking forward to the suggestions we get from others. Sometimes I find that I get into a rut and tend to focus on the familiar.
Carolyn,
I am not sure if you are buying for one person or several. Some ideas I came up with this morning are: beautiful magnets or push pins, a jar of jam with a pretty spoon, notecards, a pocket photo album, decorative hand or kitchen towels, and I am a girl who loves lotions and potions, so they always work for me.
Alright everyone, let’s keep coming up with ideas!
Blessed shopping and gift giving, Deb

4. Hi Deb,
I am the same way. I keep many gifts that can be used for this occasion around the house. I feel so much better when I don’t have to go out and buy something, because I have the perfect gift in the house that is waiting to be shared. This is a wonderful arrangement of gifts, as well,
Enjoy! Enjoy Christmas!

6. Couldn’t agree with you more! I shop all year and when I see pretty appealing items like you mentioned I buy them, put them in a plastic bin and countless times I have had the perfect gift when I needed it!

7. It is so much bettr than having to go out at the last minute and find that perfect something. Another item to think about is an extra copy of your favorite inspirational book. There are so many great girlfriend gifts just right for any occasion.

8. I also keep gifts on hand for new babies – watch for sales and you can get nice outfits for very little money, then you’ll be ready for baby showers or gifts when the baby arrives..

9. Great reminder Jody,
Although, I must admit that with the recent blessing of a new grandson I’m having trouble not directing all of my baby purchases toward him. What are some of your favorite baby items to have onhand besides outfits?
