Thanks to all of you who came to see me at the HomeGoods in-store events on the December 1st at the Pompton Plains and the Mt. Olive stores, both in New Jersey. I had a wonderful time getting to meet all of you and I hope that you all left inspired with your creative juices flowing!
I spoke about everything holiday- a bit about decorating, gift giving and entertaining but I was especially excited to roll up my sleeves and teach some of my favorite napkin folds.
Here they are below, all of these can be found in “Napkins with A Twist” by David Stark. Across the board our favorite was the pocket fold. It is so utilitarian, you can use it to store silverware, tuck little holiday bouquets in each of them or one of your most special ornaments to make your table really sparkle.
I hope that all of you give some of these a try, they are all so elegant and refined but so easy to execute…perfect for a hectic holiday season.

Also, Here is a photo of me, and my sign at the Mt. Olive event. I was so excited to be there!!

Let us know how the folding goes!
Happy Holidays!
1. When will you be at the Paramus store? I have so many questions about decorating.
Thanks.

4. So nice to meet somebody so knowledgeable. Evette is such a sweet down to earth person. I loved the napkin folding ideas, they are definitely some that I will use this holiday season. I would love to have some decorating problems answered too and now I feel that there is someone to ask. Thank you sooo much for this forum for a chance to get some answers. By the way, would you redo all the ceilings in a new home to us that have popcorn ceiling.? The house is 20 years old and over 2400 square feet. We already re-did our dining room ceiling. It seems so overwhelming. Any other suggestions? I have a feeling that I might have to bite the bullet.

5. Hi Harriet, We have taken down all of the popcorn ceilings in our home, but they were certainly out of place there as our house is 115 yrs. old and the popcorn ceiling was blown in during a renovation in the 1970’s.
Since you have already done one room, you know that it is a big job.
We found that by spraying the ceiling with water and a small amt. of ‘mean green’ mixed in, and allowing it to soak in for 1-2 minutes prior to gently scraping, the popcorn came off easing with a plastic trowel….do not use a metal trowel as it will gouge the sheet rock under the popcorn.
It is also a good time to change light fixtures, add medallions to existing light fixtures and best of all, paint the ceilings another color. Ceilings painted in dark, bright or pale colors can really enliven a room. I painted my living room and dining room ceilings a pale yellow to go with the pale green and lavender wall colors and they look so pretty. Now I wish I had used a slightly darker color.
I also bought an unpainted medallion with roses and leaves and painted them with colors to match my decor, then I went over it with a white wash to tone it down and it looks like one that would have cost a lot of money.
Don’t be afraid to experiment!!
