Whats Christmas without the cards? The problem is…how to display all those “comforting Christmas connections” of family and friends. I like to display mine in my family room around a mirror. I’ve found that slipping them into the slats of some old black shutters flanking a mirror seemed to work for me. I can see them and read them anytime and they add to the fun holiday decorations in the room. What do you do with yours?

There’s a million ways to display Christmas Cards. We would love to hear how you exhibit your cards?

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Hi — I get about 90-100 cards, so I found the best way to display them is to hang them on a twine from one end of the room to the other so they look like garland and you can see every card…I do this across both ends of 2 rooms and it looks lovely!!

2. Hello Carol,

Boy, you have a lot of family and friends! What a great way to display the cards. I bet it looks lovely and so much fun. I love getting cards and all the photos of peoples kids and families. Cards always connect you with people you haven’t heard from over the year.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your idea.

3. Hi Carol,

I get more photo cards than traditional Xmas cards. I don’t want to damage them. Any suggestions?

4. Hi Cathy~
I find I like to tape them up and around my double doorway in my living room, keeping the picture cards at eye level when possible.. It really helps to keep the festive spirit alive, and friends and family love to see their cards displayed.

5. Hi Mary,
Yes I get alot of photo cards too. They are harder to display. I guess you could attach a spring clip to them and hang from a garland or ribbon.
Make a photo college of them on some poster board and hang on a wall or door. If I think of some more I’ll post them, otherwise, does anyone have any ideas on displaying photo cards? Please tell us what you do.
Thanks for your great question.

6. Hello Ruth,

A doorway is a great place to put them up. You get a glimpse of them each time you go through the doorway. Cards are so much a part of Christmas, I hope we don’t ever just resort to sending E-mail cards, although they are nice too, but you can’t hang them up anywhere.
Thanks Ruth for your ideas.

7. This year I tried something new – especially because of all the photo cards. I got an inexpensive white metal tree with prestrung lights – 4 ft high – and a couple bags of colored plastic clothes pins. I pin the cards and photos on the tree, along with a couple of glass balls – and it is very festive, you can see all the cards, and the photos look great, especially among the twinkling lights.

8. Hi Cathy,

My 7 year old is in charge of taping them onto the doorway in the kitchen. Needlesstosay, her “eye level” is a bit different than ours, but she has fun with it. Of course, the 2 yr old then takes them off and plays with them, but at least they’re being appreciated!

9. I have an archway going into my living room and I place all the cards around the archway. You get to enjoy them each time you walk into the living room.

10. I love my cards too! I display mine on my dinner table!. I put a clean white table linen on my oblong table and cover with a clear plastic table cloth protector. I slip the cards and pics under the clear cover. it is lovely to have friends over for dinner and have them ask about who’s the beautiful family in the picture below their water glass! a great conversation piece too.

11. All your ideas are SUPER!

Linda, Your clothes pin idea of the cards to a small decorative tree. The lights will light up the cards as well. great idea!

Susan, Kids love to be involved in the decorations, and the cards are good for them because they can’t break or be hung up wrong. They also can see them at their level. Have them cut out the pictures after your through with the cards and have them make a winter craft project.

Mauree, I bet the cards in the archway, makes for a grand entrance.

Trina, What a great idea, putting cards under a clear tablecloth so all that come to eat can see the beautiful cards and pictures from family and friends. Thats a keeper idea! Thanks for sharing it.

12. Cathy, where does one find economical shutters like yours? And do you leave this decor up in your family room all year round with out the cards in it? Love the look, and would like to incorporate it in my bonus room! Thanks Cathy! You have my favorite style on this site!

13. Hi Jennifer,

Thanks so much. The shutters I picked up at a garage sale years ago. They were white and beat up, but I thought I could use them for something… I think I paid $3. or $4. for them. The mirror was left behind when we moved into this house and I needed something to fill a wall area temporarially, so I painted the shutters black and they fit just right next to the mirror. So, it stayed for a few years now. I will change it out at some point. Yes, all the cards come off soon. Look for shutters at garage sales, thrift stores, Arch. salvage stores, a friend thats remodeling. They’re fun to decorate with.
Thanks for asking? Write back soon.

14. I love receiving Christmas cards, too. And lately, they are becoming so cleverly done. I display my cards on the mirror in the dining room. I have a large wall size mirror and I just tape them to the mirror using double sided tape. They are especially nice when they include family photos.

15. i think it add’s to a country decor but how do you make a more modern???

by liz — 6/11/08 at 3:43 pm #

16. Great idea Debra, Yes, the family photos are the best. Helps us connect each year with friends and family we’ve missed during the year.

Hi Liz,
There are so many ways to display cards. A more modern way to display them might be to stand them up in large contemporary clear glass vases lined up on the mantle or shelf. Or frame some of them in simple acrylic frames and line them up. Set them in a big contemporary bowl .
Any other ideas out there?

17. Still trying to find a creative way to display my non-picture Christmas cards. I do like the shutter idea and actually saw shutters on sale at a local store. For picture cards I place them on the tree as part of the decorations.
