Sure, kids love presents at Christmastime. But its family traditions they’ll remember most long into their adulthood.
I remember our fondue Christmas Eve dinner, Santa/Dad’s surprise visit at the door (we never caught on), Danish Pancakes Christmas morning, and my Dad making us sing three carols before we could open gifts (even when we rolled our teenage eyes). Of course, we didn’t recognize or appreciate these simple events as traditions until we were older, but we remember them fondly now.
The key is to keep traditions simple, creative and consistent. What traditions are you building for your kids at Christmastime?
1. Hi Susan,
Family traditions are wonderful. My daughter called before she came home from college and said, “We’re going to have fondue for Christmas Eve and Orange rolls on Christmas arn’t we?” Yes, we have Fondue also. These traditions are so comforting and familiar to us all, especially our children. Ours somehow revolve around eating. LOL.
Merry Christmas to you and your Family,
CAthy

2. Hi Cathy…I’m wondering…is Fondue a Danish thing (I should know…but…). We always had it with deviled eggs, cranberry bread and then hid an almond in a foo foo drink to see who won the marzipan pig. Orange rolls sound good!
Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

3. Hi Susan,
I think fondue is of Swiss origin, but many countries adapted their own versions. Yours sounds wonderful with all the yummy foods, but what is a foo foo drink? Yes, I’m preparing the fondue right now. We dip/cook steak in bubbling oil, french bread, brocolli, carrots, califlower, in the swiss cheese mixture. and dip pound cake, strawberries, oranges, bananas in a chocolate mixture, then dip them in crushed pecans and walnuts. Pretty yummy.
Have a Fun, Festive ,Fondue Eve!
Merry Christmas,
Cathy

4. My family didn’t care for the bread pudding that you are supposed to hide the almond in, so we made a hot spiced cider drink and put an almond in one of them. Then, since you could see it still, we put a slice of orange on the top.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

5. WHAT your family doesn’t like Bread Pudding? Hummm…have you tried making it with Cinnamon Rolls (of course, from Central Market IF you live in Texas!) or with Krispy Kreme doughnuts! Just a suggestion, they make the VERY best!! AND…if you bake it in a decorative Bundt pan from HOME GOODS!!! you can use it as a centerpiece for your Brunch Table if entertaining!!! Happy New Year!

7. Danish pancakes … that must be “aebleskiver” … have you ever made them? I make them for the kids all the time - and not just at Christmas-time … and they LOVE them. I’ve been asked to make them even when I’m not planning to - I get out the special pan and get cracking (the eggs are the only think cracked - thought - LOL).
Wow - I’m “blogging” for the first time - this is fun!
See you soon!

8. Hi Pia,
I have my Farfar’s old recipe - written in terms of wooden spoonfuls rather than traditional cup measurements. Do you make yours with a little beer and lemon juice too? Keep on blogging!!
