Hearts and Flowers
I am all girl when it comes to the February holiday, and no I don’t mean President’s Day! LOL My family teases me about my level of fondness for the color red, hearts, flowers, chocolate, perfume, jewelry . . . anyway you get the idea.

I love to decorate for Valentine’s day! It’s easy to add a red bow, toss some candy conversation hearts in a bowl, put a sweater on your teddy bear, or replace your usual candles with red ones. It’s just good fun!

I try to let my family and friends know that I love them often, so it’s a pleasure to try to think of something that makes the sentiment extra special at this time of the year. In the Midwest, it is still cold and can sometimes be a little gray and gloomy. There is nothing like sharing a little love to brighten everyone’s mood. So, tell us what do you do for Valentine’s day? How do you decorate? What will you give . . . a card, candy, or something you will make? Is there anything you are dreaming of receiving? We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

2. Hi Deb,

Love all your Valentine decorations and ideas. It’s a great holiday. Brings back memories of sending my kids off to school with their decorated boxes of cute little valentines to give to their classmates, and then looking at all the cute ones they would bring home.
I saw a cute Valenine breakfast idea… put a couple drops of red food coloring in some pancake batter and use a large heart shaped cookie cutter to pour the batter in and cook or press into the round pancakes after they cook to make hearts. Top with strawberries, whipped cream and a few chocolate shavings on top.
Happy Hearts Day!

3. Hello Deb, I completely agree with you on the whole “going overboard” thing when it comes to decorating. My husband doesn’t quite see eye to eye with me on this aspect, but I figure its one day of 365 (or 366 this year) haha. Since he is in the navy, this is the first year in many that he and I will get to be together on this day since we were married. All in all, this is all I’ve wanted for the past few years. If I had to choose something, I don’t think I would want any presents or surprises, I just want a night out together.

4. Oh Abby,

What a precious valentine gift you are going to have this year! Enjoy having your dear man home to celebrate this year. What a great excuse to go out and paint the town “red.”

Tell him how thankful we all are for his service to our country and to all of us. He is a hero to us, and the sacrifice your family makes for this country is deeply appreciated.

Thank you and God bless you! Deb

5. Hi Deb,

Great ideas! My hubby and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary on V-day…but rather than gifts, we’re going to Cancun for a long weekend (w/o the kiddo’s!). But since my MIL will be watching the girls for us, I’m sure our home will be decked out in lots of red and pink, and they’ll probably bake a heart shaped cake when we get back!

Cathy, I like the idea of heart-shaped pancakes…I always have used food colors to make them more fun (the kids take turn picking the colors), but heart shaped will be awesome! We do orange pancakes at Halloween and “carve” out a face before eating them. Hmmm, I shoudn’t blog at night, now I’m hungry! LOL

7. Susan,

Have a wonderful trip! It sounds like the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day. What a special time for your MIL and the girls as well. Maybe that is what I enjoy about this holiday so much . . . the freedom to be a little creative! Like, heart-shaped pancakes and homemade cards . . . fun ways to say “I love you!” It’s great!

8. Love all your Valentine’s Day ideas. I non’t usually go all out but this year, I’ve decided to decorate my table very fancy with heart shaped dinner plates and lots of red candles and glassware and flowers. DH has cooked almost all year (because he likes to and I don’t) :) So I decided I’d show him my appreciation by doing up a fancy table for just the two of us this year. If I could set it up eary I would and take a picture but I have a cat who jumps all over the table so it has to wait. But here’s a sneak peak at some of the dinnerware I bought. I just put it out for a picture and it’s back in the cupboard til next week at HG
