I saw this unusual box in my favorite store and I decided that I had to buy it.  I found the carvings on the box tremendous and they looked like ancient script and appeared as though they were scripted by hand.  I was drawn to this unusual box, because to me it has “character.”  It looked as though ancient history had been carved on it and it resonated beauty and excitement. The cost was minimal and I decided to make the purchase.  I was intrigued.  I showed my finding to family and friends.

They wanted to know cost and where I purchased it.  I was  pleased to share that I had purchased this from my favorite store and this was the only one of this design, but there were simular boxes. From there, I immediately found the wrought iron tables and purchased a topless one.  I knew what I was going to do, and it would be quite easy. I was going to make a table with my fancy box and my topless wrought iron table.  I purchased permanent glue and polyurethane.  I was so excited.  I couldn’t wait to start my project. I saw this as an easy project and I knew that I could make it work.

Immediately, I took the box outside and put paper and plastic on top of a lawn side table.  I covered the table properly and all around it to make certain that it, nor anything else, would be affected by the spray of polyurethane.  Spraying outside is safer and healthier  for all concerned parties.  I sprayed the box 5 times – allowing time for drying in between.  After it was dry, I glued the box to the wrought iron table.  After the glue dried, I sprayed the table two more times.  Even though I loved the look of the natural wood, it could have spray painted any color to enhance the room of choice.

I now have a table that I can store things in. This table rests in my Family Room.  I truly enjoy it and it serves mulitiple purposes.  So often we improvise in our homes and make  things that prove to be of interest and serviceable, but we never realize that it requires ingenuity to accomplish a task of this nature.  I am proud of this project.  Share with us what you or a family member made for your home that made you and your family proud. ;-)

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Betty, What an interesting and creative way to combine the two pieces.
The box is a beautifully carved. The iron stand is a great compliment to the box and raises it to a level to be seen and enjoyed. It looks lovely with your other furnishings in the room.
Very nice, you are so clever.

4. Hi Dan,

What a great idea! I had not thought about the use in a theater room. But, you are right. It is perfect for having a specific place to store your remote controll, and any other needs for your TV or other entertainment pieces. And yes you can have your food and beverages on top. This is so great, especially for this Super Bowl Weekend. I know that you and your wife and your friends will enjoy the tables very much, because they will serve the multiple purposes. Enjoy the Super Bowl and let us hear from you again! Thank you for sharing!

5. Good Morning Betty,

I have recently become a big fan of Home Goods. My wonderful fiancee is HG loyalist. Should you come across the beautiful orange color lounge-chair displayed on the HG site. I would be more of a HERO to Queen, if I could score this piece.

In addition she saw a beautiful leopard and leather chair that she saw on paid hold :( in a store right outside of Philly.

Regards,

The best part about it is that you can find the best deals in the world and “live the life without paying the price.” Yes. That orange chair and the leopard and leather chair are fabulous finds and HG does not keep inventory on it’s merchandise. They do not have records of where merchandise might be found. This process enables them to give you quality items and keep the cost and the pricing low. However, check with the HG stores in your area and see if they have the merchandise that you seek. I truly wish you the best of luck! Let us know how you make out. Your interest in wanting to please your fiancee speaks volumns. Good Luck!

8. Hi betty,
I just love the table you made with the storage box. It looks like a British west Indies or Out Of africa feel to it. I can find three rooms to use this in.
It would be great as a table next to the bed for storing books. It could be a small tea table with a tea set placed on top. You coud even store a throw and the TV remote for the family room. What a creative idea Betty!!

9. Hi Andrea,

It does have the British West Indies feel and the kind of African decor as well. Thank you for your wonderful comments! Your suggestions for use are great! I talked to a neighbor of mine who is from France and he decided to find some boxes with the French influence. They made a few and they are using them for muliple purposes. They are absolutely gorgeous! He and his wife are ecstatic over the results. Thank you again for your comments. Continue to keep in contact and share with us. Your comments mean a great deal.
