5. Can you tell me the room dimensions and let me know where the door is and how you access the closet? I’ve been asked to help design my Niece’s room (who just turned 13) and the layout of this room is very similar to hers. Thanks for your response.

6. Hello Pam,
It sounds like you’ll have some fun designing your Niece’s room. Do it now because by the time they are in their teens, they will want to do things their way…which is fine, but it may not be what you had in mind.
The room dimensions are 9′ by 12′. This bedroom is a suite. it has its own bathroom and large walk -in closet so we didn’t need a dresser in the room.
The closet is accessed down the entry hall on the bottom right (see floor plan). The door to the closet is on the right side of the hall. The entry door is across the hall from the closet door, and the bathroom is to the right of the entry door. I did decorate these two spaces as well and I will post the whole room soon.
Have a great time with your Niece and enjoy working on her room together.

We are in the final stages of the room, (we’ve had a few delays) and I hope to post it by the end of the month. Stay tuned. Thanks for your interest.

9. My 16 year old daughter is wanting to do her room in black and white stripes on the accent wall and a turquoise blue on the rest of the walls. She is really into the old movie stars. I do not mind the colors or theme I just need help trying to put it together. Any suggestions? I do not want it to look tachy and neither does she. Help

10. Hello Denise,
Your daughter’s room sounds fun and exciting. The colors are great, graphic and bold.
A few ideas for you…
If you’re going with the black and white stripes, go bold. Large 6-9″ stripes on the accent wall. Place the bed on this wall as well. Add a tall padded turquoise 40s style headboard. A white/cream colored bed cover with pillows in a b/w stripe (or dot), turq. and an accent color…maybe coral.
On the turquoise walls, you can frame large black and white movie star posters in black frames (repeating the b/w colors on that side of the room). Add some drapery in the coral color and maybe a mid-century chair in a large b/w stripe fabric. Find some great 40’s style lamp bases. Spray paint them turq. and add white drum shades trimed in coral. Side tables by the bed can be “mirrored” , 40’s style. Maybe add a little zebra throw over the bed or as an are rug. Find an old 40’s vanity with the big round mirror, paint it white.
It should be a great room! Hope I gave you a few ideas for a classy but fun teen room.

11. Hello!
I wanted to know how you did the bulletin boards on the wall. I read what you typed above, but how did you do the border so perfectly?
Thanks,
Kim D.
by Kim 5/16/08 at 8:29 pm #
12. Hi Kim,
The borders were measured and taped off with blue painters tape. Use a long bubble level to keep lines straight and level. These borders here, are 3″ wide. Paint in at about 3 1/2 ” to make sure the boards and mirror cover the painted area. The scooped corners were traced off of a bowl or anything round will work. To make it stand out more, the pink frame was outlined with a grey painted hand drawn line, to look shaded and more dimensional. Just take your time to measure correctly and it will come out great.

14. Hello Brenda,
Thank you so much. How wonderful to have a new baby. I bet you’re enjoying being a mother.
You are interested in some decorating ideas. Before designers can give you ideas, you have to give us some first. I like to ask some questions before I comment because what I like may not be what you like. So…
here are a few questions to answer to help you and me come up with some ideas for you…
* What room(s) are you doing?
* What feeling do you want in the room? (relaxing, cozy, energizing, etc)
* What style do you like? (contemporary, traditional, retro, country, Asian etc.)
* What colors are you drawn to?
* What budget are you working with? ( low, med. high)
Many other questions as well, but these will get you going. Also, Look through some decorating magizines or online and find some rooms you like the feel of for inspiration.
Write back with a little more information and I’ll be happy to give you a few ideas.
Kiss the baby!
