My dear friend has been doing some redecorating lately. It has been so much fun to share this process with her, and now with you. They have lived in this home since the birth of their first of six children, and decided that it was time for a change.

As I have been looking at decorating magazines lately, I have discovered that once again this year Mediterranean flavor is very influential. Maybe it’s because that part of the world is well known for partaking in good food, friendships, and hospitality.

So, I like the idea of decorating with a hint of the warmth of Italy and Greece, especially in the parts of our homes where we entertain. The above photo is of the wall between her kitchen and dining room. The wonderful paint finish was achieved by using a glazing process, which I am told is extremely easy. I love the way this turned out! I especially like the way the artwork enhances the paint finish. It gives the feeling of being on a mini vacation! (Which isn’t easy in a room where meals are being prepared several times each day for a family of eight!)

So, let us know what you have done to bring a little Mediterranean flavor into your decorating. Whether you’re decorating inside, or outside as you prepare your yard for outdoor entertaining . . . share your ideas and photos in our comments or customer finds spots.

1. I love the Italian/Old Wold look. I also have a similar canvas pictured that you showed in your blog. It was a gift and i truely love it. I am looking for large italian pieces such as olive jars etc. Do you know where I can find them in the Houston area at a reasonable price?

2. Hi Wendy,

Thanks for your comments. What a lovely gift for someone to give you. As far as finding large jars and other accent pieces. I wish I could be of more help. Merchandise changes frequently at HomeGoods, so what I do is just stop in for a brief visit once or twice each week. Of course, I love to spend lots of time when it is available, but if I am in a hurry I simply check the areas of the store that stock the things for which I am searching. I know that’s not much help, but hopefully the treasure hunt will be part of the fun.

3. The artwork shown and the great finish on the wall are wonderful! I also love the Mediterranean look in decorating. (Perhaps because of my ethnic background which is Mediterranean) I was very lucky to find an Italian plate and wrought iron plate stand which I use on my granite counter to get a little flavor of this style (would like to add a picture later). Also, some pieces in the display cabinets in the kitchen that were added during our remodel (kitchen open to the family room now so wanted a “furniture” look instead of kitchen cabinet look). We would like to use tiles we got in Greece to add a little more international flavor! It’s also nice to add accents to the look that we get from our local wineries. I certainly hope this trend lasts for awhile. It is so elegant. I can’t wait to explore a Home Goods store in our area. The merchandise I saw in an ad was very nice and also colorful.

4. Thanks Chrys,

I will pass your comments on to my friend, Mel. She will definitely appreciate your enthusiasm and additional ideas. I agree this is such a fun decorating style. The colors are so vibrant and yet the feel of the Mediterrean makes us want to slow down and savor a meal rather than rush through like devouring fast food.

We will be anxious to see your pictures and enjoy more of your ideas.

5. What is the name of the Wall art that is pictured with the Wrought Iorn Hanger? I have only 2 stores in the Dallas area. I have checked both and they have a small version, is there a larger one?

6. Hi Pam,

Thanks so much for your question. I contacted the friend who purchased this piece, and this was her reply. “154086-149 is the only thing on it. These are supposed to be originals. They actually have paint smears on the back!”

It is a fabulous piece. I am not sure what size you are looking for, but the canvas portion pictured above is approximately 2′ X 3′.

I hope you are successful in your search, and find some fun in the process.

8. Hi Pam,

Thanks for keeping us up to date on your search. Finding that perfect treasure is always worth the effort. I am not familiar with Sam Moon Home Decor Stores, are they a national chain?

I am looking forward to a HomeGoods outing tomorrow. I always enjoy the thought of spending time there. This time I am looking for some home organizing items.

It was great to hear from you.
