WOW! It’s amazing what these digital cameras can do, (because I’m not great at anything technical. I just point and shoot and hope it comes out). I thought I’d go out in my yard and take a few shots of some flowers in bloom. Since I had to get close ups, I thought they would be way out of focus. To my surprise, they came out crisp and clear. I printed some on glossy photo paper and they looked as good as anything you could buy in a store, but, they are so much more personal and meaningful…because they come from your own yard.
I thought… what great art these would make. You can size them down or blow them up to any size. Mat and frame a series of 6 or 8 for a wonderful personal wall display. Give them as gifts. Not just flowers photographed, but any plants, ferns, trees, vegetables or fruit. All great subject matter for home art. If you don’t have flowers in your yard, go to a nursery, botanical gardens, or park for a “bevy of botanical beauties” to photograph.

These photos, are 3 1/2″ X 5″. I left them small to show a framing idea. A way to make small art more visible, to stand out, and have a big impact, is to frame it in much larger frames. These frames are 17″ X 21″. Here I used multiple mats and heavy paper to “bullseye” the photos. The colored mats are “art” themselves which directs the eye to the small photo … a great way to display smaller artwork.
So, Get out those digital cameras and go shoot some great art. You’ll be surprised at what beautiful art is right outside your door.
Any other ideas for photo art?

2. Thank you Janice,
How are things going with your decorating? I hope well. Whats the lastest thing you’ve been working on? How’s that black wall coming along, LOL.

3. Hi, Cathy. I just finished painting the kitchen cabinets black. In fact, last night, I finished up the last cabinet door and the kitchen looks wonderful. I know now that black was the right choice, especially with the white counter tops and black and white backsplash. I have already purchased the paint for the black wall in the bedroom, but wanted to get the kitchen finished before tackling this job. I think I told you that I have some nice zebra-print throw pillows. Is there a way that I could incorporate these into the room one day whenever I want to change from the black & white, and red throw pillows? I especially like the color of lime with zebra print.

4. Bravo Janice,
I bet the cabinets look great!!! You’ve really been busy to tackle that job.
Really sharp with the white counters and B/W backsplash. I bet your so excited to get that done and looking so good. I’m proud of you!!
Sure you can use your zebra pillows. When you tire of the red use the lime as the accent color…a great combination as well. You could even throw in a little lime with the red. Just use much LESS of it than the red. It’s the accent to the accent.
Enjoy you’re great kitchen. Keep us posted on your next adventure.
