With many of us using more neutral colors for our flooring (which is a good idea if you are going to keep in mind the possible resale of your home), what are our options to keep things from getting boring? I have discovered that the use of area rugs is a way to add color and design to an otherwise plain space. I have also noticed that many of you have searched for ideas on the use of area rugs. So, I though it might be nice to throw out a couple of ideas, and then start some dialogue about the possibilities.
The thing I love about area rugs is that they enable me to change things around with little effort or expense. As you can see from the pictures, many of my rugs have similar colors and styles. That makes it possible for me to simply move them around to different rooms giving me a whole new look.
Now that the warmer weather is upon us . . . well at least we are hoping that it is. It is easy to change your seasonal look, by putting away the heavy wool rugs and replacing them with cotton or sisal hemp ones. I even saw some ideas for hand painting pictures or stencils on sisal rugs. I thought that was a fabulous idea, especially for a screen room or just to give your home a cottage feel for the summer.
I was amazed how many options there were just by googling the word sisal . . . I looked under both articles and images.
So, let’s start talking. What are your ideas for the use of rugs in your home?
1. Hi Deb-When I recently suggested to a client the other day to get an area rug for her family room area to lay over top of her existing carpeting, she was surprised to hear that this was ‘OK’, so don’t forget about using an area rug for color or pattern ,or to define a seating area, even if you have carpeting in that area. I also use the ‘think about the size you may need and get the next size up’,trick as rugs tend to somehow shrink when you get them home-they look so big when hanging on those tall rug racks! Keep in mind, if using a rug in an area where furniture sits, having only the front legs on the rug is OK too-the whole piece doesn’t have to be sitting directly on the rug. Keep rug pattern minimal if the pattern on any upholstery in the same area is prominent. Adding area rugs can pop instant update to a room or space that needs a lift!
Thanks

2. Carolyn, I completely agree! Thanks so much for adding those great suggestions. I have been placing area rugs over carpet for years. They really help to define the space. I had to place the furniture at an angle in my great room, so having a rug in the midst of the sitting area seems to pull everything together.
You are absolutely right about them shrinking when you get them home. It is funny, but really the opposite of furniture which seems to grow when you take it out of a huge showroom. LOL
Thanks again for your input. Great suggestions.

3. I would like to know if you have a catalog for the Home Goods Store?
If so I would like one. Thank you

4. Hi Carla,
Because each of our stores receives over 10,000 new items each week, it would be impossible for us to offer a catalog to our customers.
We appreciate your inquiry.
Sincerely,
Jessica

6. Hi Violet,
At this time, HomeGoods does not offer a service of online shopping. We may in the future, however, and suggest signing up for HomeGoods emails to keep you up to date.
Thanks for the inquiry,
