Wow!! I’ve got to get a wedding gift for a wedding that I will be attending in June. I know that they have a wedding registry, but the bride- to- be and the groom asked that I not adhere to the registry and use my own discretion about what I should buy. They are such a wonderful couple and I have no idea, at this time, what my selection should be. I have a few things that stand out for me, but I am still a little uncertain. What I love in particular is that there is such a wide variety to choose from. What bothers me also, is the same thing, “the wide variety to choose from.” For example:
This gorgeous cookware was the first thing to grab my attention. The colors, the purpose and the joy of a gift of this nature for a young couple who love to cook and enjoy the beauty of the kitchen. This was essential in my consideration;

Or, a set of beautiful tableware that would be a pleasure to grace any table. The magic of this set is in the colors and the design. It looks as though it’s hand painted. It reminds me of a vase that I purchased for a home that I was decorating that was made in Italy. This couple is going to Italy on their Honeymoon, I wonder if this tableware would remind them of Italy.

Or, these matching bath towels and hand towels, with wash cloths are such a typical wedding gift, but it’s the design and texture that I like that makes them so beautiful. I never dismiss towels and wash cloths when they are of such great quality, soft and comfortable to the skin. The matching oversized towels are always a lovely wedding gift. Having some idea of the color scheme of the different rooms helps tremendously with the selection.
Now, share with us, what you would do? What would you select? I have other choices that I want to consider, but right now, these are at the top of my list. Share with me your choice/s or selections.
1. All of choices are exquisite! However, I think I like the cookware and tableware — the best.
However, why don’t you buy them all? ;0)

2. I’m no decorator, as a matter of fact, there are no wall hanings in the majority of my riverview home. That being said, I can buy great towels and the fade soon after (giving me the excuse to re-deccorate) so I say no on the towels. They’ll inevitably be used for things a bath towel should never be used for and may stain. The kitchen ware is a better idea but if your couple likes to cook, it may not be to their liking, therefore it would end up in a box somewhere for years to come never to be seen again. Bad idea, pots, pans and accessories are a very personal thing. My favorite of this trio are the dishes, it will definately remind them of their honeymoon and there are so many colors they’ll go with just about any decor. It’s a fabulous choice.

3. Wow! I totally agree “the wide variety… vs. the wide variety…” However, my first inkling would be toward the beautiful dishes for several reasons: they certainly bring thoughts of Italy to mind, and for the couple, the memories of Italy from the honeymoon could certainly live on in their daily lives. Also, they are just beautiful and a complete set is an ideal gift. The cookware certainly ranks very high because it is so outstanding for any kitchen and what cook doesn’t appreciate the ease of meal prep and completion in “good” cookware? I don’t think you’ll go wrong with either choice. Oh, let’s still consider the linen… it’s fabulous. Gee, I didn’t help, I just rolled the “wide variety” of choices around one more time. Oh well, any one of them will make a great gift.

4. Obviously, get them something they need off their registry. Or send a check. You want it to be something they really use, right?

5. Hi Richelle,
It’s always great to hear from you! I am so pleased that you like the everything, but like the cookware and the tableware best. I tend to be leaning in those directions as I get the responses from you and others. Thank you so much for your sharing. It’s always good to get other opinions. Let us hear from you again.
May Mother’s Day be a happy day!

6. Hi Tami,
What great thought process! I would never have rationalized the way that you did and you have given me considerable food for thought. Thank you for sharing and making me look at all from a different perspective. Thanks for your “Fabulous” advice.
Whether mother or not, let Mother’s Day be a happy day!

7. Hi Veronica,
We missed hearing from you! Thank you so much for your sharing such great advice. I love the color of the dishware and the cookware as well. I suppose that I should have been a little bit more specific when I said that the dishes look like a vase that was from Italy that I purchased for a client. They look Italian.
You are also so right. I have been thinking that a set if any of the items is always better to give as a gift. Thank you for your well thought out advice. It means so very much!
Make Mother’s Day a happy day!

8. I live on the east -side of cleveland. Mentor to be exact. I would love a homegoods store in this area. With the high cost of gas I won’t drive across town. Please consider opening a store in Lake county OH.
Sincerely
Joan

9. Betty, I can’t find anymore of the Dario Farrucci dinnerware here in FL. Can you help me? Thanks so much, Diane

10. This is my first time on the site… but what a cook thing! Getting shopping advice. I would go for the dishes…. they are warm and inviting. What is in the center? Looks like a bluebird of happiness. I thought it might be a Dove – which is wonderful too (sign of peace), or a butterfly… (rebirth through marriage)…. all of this, makes it a “conversation piece”, or is that “peace”? The plates spoke to you… Italy. I’d definitely vote there. The pans, although beautiful, force you to make a color choice for them.. and that is personal, putting a pan in someone’s hand, isn’t “warmth” like the plates are… THEY will be shared. Will the cooking? Yes, cooking can be warmth and comfort to some people… but so will the food on those wonderful dishes. Okay, towels… fabric… it will fade… give them something that lasts… and one more note… they can get add on pieces.
by Mary 5/10/08 at 7:58 pm #
11. … ooops… my last note was supposed to read “cool” thing in the first line… not “cook” thing… guess my brain is “cooked”.

12. Hi Nicole,
You’re right! I thought of doing just what you said, because for me, it would make my life so much easier (smile). However, the couple asked that I not to get anything from the registry and that they wanted me to use my own discretion in purchasing a gift for them. It could be that they feel that there is a wider gift selection and wonderful purchases that can be made within the HG stores. Unless asked for, I rarely give gift cards. When I do, I give a card in the store where the couple is registered. I have also given checks, because it lets me off of the hook (smile), and they can do what they want with the money.
Excellent points! Keep in touch. I will share a few others that I am trying to select from, then I will make a decision according the responses from the bloggers. Thank you so much for sharing.

13. Hi Joan,
Although we have no plans of opening a store in the Mentor area at this time, we have forwarded your request to our Real Estate Department.

14. Hi Diane,
As you can see, this is Dario Farrucci Dinnerware. This just happens to be in a store in Columbia, Maryland. This is gorgeous dinnerware! I can understand why you are trying to get additional pieces. I haven’t seen a set like this anyplace else but HomeGoods.
Good luck to you! You deserve to find it and get all of the pieces that you can. Let me know how you make out.

15. Hi Mary,
Excellent advice! The plates are beautiful and quite rare looking. I’m not sure what kind of blue bird is on the plate, but if it means happiness, peace, and all other positive things, that is to the couples benefit. Thank you for making us aware of the meanings that are prevalent with the beauty of different birds. So many times we purchase things, having no idea of the meaning that prevails.
Your advice is great and I will take all of the comments into consideration before making a decision. I have a few other items to share with you before I make up my mind. It seems as though most of the bloggers are going for the plates, with valid justification. I appreciate you taking the time to share. Keep in touch and let me know how you feel about the next possible gift selections and then I will make up my mind.
Thank you so much!!!!

16. Hi Mary,
Don’t worry about making that small error! Your comments were so great, that to write the word “cook” instead of “cool” was not important. What was important was the way that you responded to share your opinion and to give excellent advice. I truly appreciate your taking the time.
There are great days ahead!!!
by Betty 5/12/08 at 11:55 am #
17. The dinnerware would be my choice. They are truly beautiful! It would be easy to choose from many solid colors for accents like dish towels or tablecloths. I prefer to choose my own cookware; I’m very picky. But maybe the bride-to-be has been specific in her request or you know her well. So, I vote for the dinnerware! You know it won’t be duplicated also.
by Dee 5/18/08 at 7:36 pm #
18. Hi Dee,
Thank you for your selection! I think that I am leaning totally toward purchasing the dinnerware. The majority of the bloggers have voted for the dishes. However, in the second set of suggested gift ideas, they have also highlighted the candle holders, as well.
Yes! I do know the couple quite well and they have suggested that I not purchase anything from their register. They recently told me that because of my HG insight, they wanted me to purchase something for them from HG. Sought of tricky, (smile) but smart.
Thank you so much for sharing and helping me to make up my mind. I feel that I am ready to make a decision. Keep in touch!

20. Hi Shirley,
Thank you for your comments. As you can possibly see, most of the comments are in favor of the dishes and some for the candle holders. Well, I have decided on the dishes and I must say that they I have them, boxed, wrapped and ready to go for the June wedding. Thank you for caring enough to share. Keep in touch and continue to let us know your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you.
I hope that the holiday proved to be great for all in your family! Look forward to a wonderful Spring and Summer.

21. While the gifts are lovely, I believe the dishes are not for everyone. If they are on their list of wanted items, go for it. Sometimes our taste is very different from the recipient. I personally would not want the dishes, as I believe the pattern is too busy. Do they like ornate decor or suttle, soft items. Although it may seem ordinary, the most appreciated gift I’ve given has been a very beautiful picture frame for their wedding photo. You could even take photos at the wedding for inclusion if appropriate. This is an especially good for a second wedding, where the bride and groom probably have a full houseful of furnishings.
by Charlene 6/5/08 at 7:28 pm #
22. Hi Charlene,
I understand what you are saying; however, these are to be representative of their honeymoon in Italy. This is an Italian designer and the design is one that the parents felt would be perfect for them. My own style is quite different, but I was ever so pleased to learn that most of the respondents thought that this would be the best choice. The parents were shown all in advance, and they waited until I got responses from the readers and then they shared the fact that they knew that the couple would choose the dishes.
In fact, for another wedding that I am attending, I am giving the couple a wedding album that looks like it’s merely a frame, but it has all of the wedding pictures that can come before you with the switch of a button.
Thank you for your comments! You gave all of us something to think about when we buy gifts for others. Not just wedding gifts, but for other purposes as well. It’s great to hear from you again.
Enjoy this spring weather as we move into Summer!

23. Hi Betty, while I was in Maryland over Memorial Day weekend, I hit 4 Home Goods stores, and called the Columbnia Store, who informed me they had no more of this dinnerware. Do you have a connection there? Someone I can call and verify? Or do you know of a buyer who can help me? I am really hoping to finish my set as I have a large family. Thanks for your help with this! Diane
by Diane 6/7/08 at 7:40 am #
24. Hi Diane,
They are right! That dinnerware went so fast. I had referred a friend who got there two days after I told her about it and much of it was gone. I am so sorry that you can not find it. It is such a wonderful and beautiful set that they just might come back with it again. Keep checking and don’t give up. Also, check with their Marshalls stores and TJ Maxx stores. Very often they will get some of the same merchandise after HomeGoods. I would not give up on it. Good luck to you! I really hope that you will be successful in your search.
by Betty 6/9/08 at 7:55 pm #
25. Thanks, Betty. I don’t plan to give up. I am sure I will find it again, it is too beautiful to be retired! Best to you, Diane

26. Hi Diane,
Thanks for your determination and drive. You deserve to find these dishes. Did you check at TJ Maxx and Marshalls? Keep them in mind when you do your search. I am really anxious for you and pray that you will get the desires of your heart – those beautiful dishes.
The very best to you, too-

29. I have been dreaming about the Darui Farrucci dinnerware set since I saw one plate in a Home Goods store in the Orlando area. I went back and they were gone. I am wondering if you are still ordering that particular dinnerware set and if you have any suggestions how to get on a list to get a setting for 10? Thanks for your reply.
