I have really appreciated your advice in regards to selecting the right wedding gift for this young couple who will be getting married in June.  I also indicated that I had a few other choices that I wanted to share with you.  So far, you have all agreed that the best wedding gift that you gave the highest marks  is the tableware.  Of those gift ideas, the tableware has  become the gift that is my most favored.  However, I would like you to look at some other gift ideas and let me know what you think.  I will make my decision after I get your final word.  I will assess what you have decided from this second selection of gift ideas and choose between the tableware and the what appears to be the majority choice in this second group.

These gift ideas are:

The beautiful gold monogrammed bathroom accessories (above). They make a wonderful statement.

These beautiful serving dishes are so colorful and look as though they are hand painted.  They are another prize gift.

These gorgeous candle holders, with the brushed nickel base, are both about 17-18 inches tall, with the large frosted-design globes that make a wonderful statement.

Okay!  You’ve seen these three additional wedding gift ideas.  Now, I need you to share with me and let me know which one/s you like best.  You have shown great insight and as a result, I look forward to hearing your selection’s.

1. Those are all fabulous! I want all of them. I sorry, we were supposed to suggest an ideal wedding gift out of the three of them. I suggest you purchase all of them, give one of them to the bride and groom and I will give you my address for you to send the other two to me.

3. Definitely the candle holders. While I like the bath accessories, they are not to everyone’s taste and I love the dishes, but again, they may not be to everyone’s taste as the candle holders would.

4. As much as I liked the first set of choices, I dislike the second. Sometimes we can over-think things and get totally frustrated.

My choice would be the lovely dinnerware. The colors are bright and cheerful for a young couple. The newlyweds can pull any number of colors from the design as a color scheme for their kitchen (and entire home, for that matter). Just as I learned years ago, one of a number of ways to decide on colors for walls and furnishings for a home is to use a favorite piece of art that will be hung in the room as your pallet, and pull the colors out of the painting to compliment the art.

5. My choice would be the candleholders. They are timeless and go with any decor. They can be used in the bathroom or on a mantle. I have been married for 37 years and still have/use some of the gifts I received at my wedding shower. I cherish the memory of the people who gave me those things.
The dishes are very nice but unless you are aware of the bride’s other choices and know that they would fit in, I think the choice is too risky.
I wouldn’t give bathroom accessories as a wedding gift.

Always love to shop at Homegoods but my most recent visit last weekend found the store choatic — too much merchandise everywhere so that you couldn’t get through the aisles. Left without buying anything!

6. Hi Richelle,

I can call you friend, because you are such a great supporter of the HG blogs (smile). I’m glad that you like all of the wedding gift ideas and that you want me to send you the two that I don’t give to the bride and groom (smile). But, my friend, without payment, that would be impossible (smile). They are all quite beautiful, but I know that I must make a decision soon. I’m like a kid in the candy store, with so much to choose from that I go from one thing to the next. In the previous blog you liked the dishes best. I have decided upon the dishes from that group. I’ll see what responses I get from others sharing their ideas and then I will make a decision.

Thank you so much for sharing. We always look forward to hearing from you.

7. Hi Elaine,

Excellent analysis! The candle holders have a crisp look and the bathroom accessories have a look of distinction. That’s probably the case, because they are monogramed. These serving dishes have an interesting look.

Thank you so much for taking the time. Great suggestions and analysis! Keep sharing with us. We look forward to hearing from you.

8. Nothing from the second set! The dinnerware from the first set is the best choice hands down.

As a recent bride (2 years ago), I would appreciate anything from the second set AFTER being in a home for awhile and learning what our personal tastes were. Although I didn’t like moving into my husband’s apt. at the time of our marriage, it did help us both know what we were looking for in a home and has made decorating our home an exciting endeavor for us both. I think the tableware from the first group of selections fit for newlyweds and allow them to grow into their own personal taste preferences.

9. Hi Nancy,

Thank you for sharing your choice of the candle holders. You are right, they serve as a kind of gift that can satisfy most people’s taste. It’s obvious that you have great taste. Your response is important.

Thank you so much for taking the time and we look forward to hearing from you again soon.

10. Hi Margie,

I like your directness! Thank you for your insightful appraisal of why I should select the dishes as the best choice for the wedding gift. You are ever so right about how dishes, like your favorite art piece, can often determine what colors we use in decorating and can suggest design. Whatever you identify as your favorite item in a room, your home, office or on the outside of your home, can often determine how you decorate.

The rug in my family room was the first piece purchased for that room and it became the focal point from which my ideas for how I would decorate that room flourished.

Thank you for reminding me. You have helped tremendously! Let us hear from you again soon.

11. Hi Margo,

Congratulations on being married for 37 years! How wonderful! Just to think, you still have gifts that were given to you for your wedding. I am certain that the persons who gave you these gifts appreciate the fact that you still have them and remember those who gave the gifts with fondness.

I am glad that you like the candle holders and feel like I do, that they represent the kind of gift that can be with you for many years to come.

I’m sorry to hear about the HomeGoods in your area. Call the HomeGoods Customer Service Department and comment about the store and the fact that the merchandise is all in the aisles and you were unable to shop, because it was so chaotic. Good luck to you and let us know how you make out with that. HomeGoods takes pride in their stores. The stores in my area that I have visited are always orderly and perfectly stocked and buyer-friendly.

Thank you so much for your advice and wonderful insight. I appreciate your candor. Let us hear from you again soon.

12. Hi Carmil,

Congratulations to you and your husband for your 2nd year of marriage! You have provided excellent information from the view of a recently married individual. You clearly state that your preference for a newly marriage couple would be the dishes from the first set of suggested gifts that I have shown. Thank you so much for sharing and your thorough analysis of the “why.”

It’s also great that you and your husband are having fun decorating. Continue to enjoy every second of this experience now that both of you know what you want for your home and you now find comfort and joy in decorating it. Keep in touch and share with us about your decorating.

13. Thank you!

To all of you wonderful people who responded, I decided to select the dishes from the first group of gift ideas that have the Italian design. I was really undecided about just what I would select. It was finally narrowed down to the dishes and the candle holders. Even though I purchased both, I am giving the candle holders to my daughter and her family and the dishes I will give to the bride and groom.

I can not thank you enough for taking the time to respond. Continue to keep in touch and share with us. We look forward to hearing from you.

14. I like all those ideas and here’s another one to consider. Give the bride a gift with her new last name. She’ll love it! Check out this website for more details, http://www.letterperspectives.com

15. Hi Val,

I checked out your website. I love the idea! I will investigate this the next time I give a gift for the home or another purpose. I really like what was presented. How insightful!

18. I have a great idea I have used before at many showers. The response is always tons of ooh’s & ahh’s and “wow, what a great idea, I never even thought of that.” after the shower not only did the bride go out of her way to personally thank me but the groom also did.My idea is if you can find some-one to go in on the gift with you , theres always some-one more than willing. You can purchase a inexpensive grill for like $130.00 to $150.00 and then buy some matching outdoor dinner-ware at home-goods ,or target has a nice selection thats inexpensive.purchase the plastic plates with matching cups & placemats. Then try to get some cordinating patio lights and cordnating centrilla candles. Or you can buy the grill & two nice[ mabey colorful] ardinback

19. HI Kim,

What a wonderful idea!!! I can imagine that the couple will love you and your friend who gave them this gift forever and ever. That’s such a thoughtful idea, because most people do not even think about purchasing outside of the realm of traditional gifts. I hope that more people will consider giving a gifts of this nature. You have given us all something to think about. Thank you for reengineering our thinking about gifts that we can give to people that we love.

Let us hear from you again. We look forward to your sharing.
