This is the first year in a very long time that we have not had to water our lawns and gardens. Remember, it’s still spring and there are more changes to come. But, for the last few years, we have not had enough rain and our entire area suffered with the shortage of water. For a few years, around this time of year, we have seen the grass and the leaves on the trees turning brown and starving for water. However, because of the shortage, we were limited to the days, the amount of water, and the hours that we could water our gardens and lawns.

This year, our area has seen some major thunderstorms, hurricanes and slight tornadoes ( though some might differ with the tornado aspect) and as a result, a lot of water. As I look around, I have noticed how luscious the greenery is around the house. Some of the flowers are in the process of blooming, but since there was another frightening thunderstorm last night, I thought that it was best if I shared these pictures with you now. What is really alarming is the magnitude of the thunderstorm in our neighborhood. We have never felt the results of this kind of storm before. I am so grateful that no one has been hurt.

In our same block, the thunderstorm was so severe that a tree was pulled up by the roots, because of the severity of the storm. To my knowledge, no one was hurt by this falling tree and no homes were damaged. This was a blessing, because this was a very tall tree that could have done considerable damage.

In one way, we have been blessed by the enormous rain that has made up for the shortage of water that has caused our area to suffer for a few years, but in the process, there has been some damage that has come as a result of these thunderstorms. In a few areas of the state, homes and cars have been destroyed. In none of the instances have we heard that persons were hurt. It is important that if you know of individuals, families, homes that have suffered as a result of these natural disasters, that everyone should do all that they can to help. Count your blessings one by one!!!

Share your experiences and feelings with us. We would love to hear from you.

1. Betty,
Thanks for sharing. Your greenery is very very luscious indeed. We have been so fortunate in the Mid-Atlantic area; while others have suffered such devastating misfortune due to flooding. We all must count our blessings though…even those who have suffered the loss are still here to tell about it. My prayers are with them that they will see the true value of living and can overcome the loss of “things” that can be replaced. (I know some may say, easy to say…but life is so precious and short.) Even looking at the uprooted tree in your community… it could have been something altogether different, but for the Grace…

2. Hi Veronica,

It’s always great to hear from you! I thought that it was so important to share what was happening in the same block. Though the homes were spared and some of the gardens were full of beautiflul flowers and greenery that has not yet blossomed, just a few steps away was the possible devastation. I started to take more pictures in the neighborhood of beautiful and wonderfully manicured landscapes to show the real comparison, but I know that you must have the approval of landowners to do that. Since I didn’t have the approval, I didn’t share other spaces in close proximity. As you said, we were blessed because there are so many who have lost lives and homes throughout this country, because of the turbulent thunder storms. We all have so much to be thankful for.

Thank you for responding and letting us know your thoughts! Enjoy this latter part of Spring and the entrance of Summer.

Let us hear from you again soon!!
