So, you’ve purchased your rug for your livingroom and you have found just the right picture or wall decor that you want in the room, that will compliment the rug. You’ve decided that you want to place this picture over the couch or a special place in the room, possibly on the tri-pod that would allow for highlighting the picture and the rug. Now, you want to provided the appropriate accent for the couch and/or chair with throw pillows/accent pillows. It’s amazing what difference the accent pillows make in the decoration of a room.

They offer the opportunity to embellish the decoration in the room by introducing color, texture, style and pattern while successfully integrating them with the furnishings in the room.

This chair has a subtle pattern that is in a light beige with a light tan. It’s lovely and can easily blend in with many different colors, designs and styles in the room when decorating. The Carpet, of course, would go on the floor. The carpet pattern is bold and exciting. The picture that would hang on the wall or stand gracefully on the tri-pod, picks up the colors in the pattern of the rug. You might have decided on another pillow or pillows; however, this was a very interesting combination. It was quite easy to see that the ruby colored oblong/rectangular pillow would add just the right touch. Now, you could have decided on another picture that would pick up any of the other colors in the pattern of the rug. Your primary interest is to accentuate. The accent pillow does accentuate.

Here we are using the same chair. Now, this rug is more subtle with a beautiful pattern that has lovely colors of green, yellow-gold, blue and gray. Rather then a picture, I’ve decided that it might be better decorative wall decor to highlight the beauty of the mirror. This is a beautiful artistic mirror that will highlight the entire room. As you can see, the mirror reflects images of other pieces in the area. Imagine this chair without the accent pillows and it will be lacking. However, I decided to pick out pillows that pick up or highlight the pattern in the rug. One is the print pillow in green, blue, gray, and yellow. The other is a plain, darker green pillow that accentuates the rug and the room. The purpose of these accent pillows is to offer decorative possibilities and create the compelling visual effect that will be appealing to the eyes and exciting for the home.

With the same chair, I chose a very different pattern and varied color design for the rug. This is a very vibrant and beautiful floral pattern that allows for a variety of colors for the accent pillows. Now, remember, although I am using this chair to show the variation in decoration, think in terms of this as being inclusive with the couch. I chose this picture that will be the wall decor that has a brighter color of red then you find in the pattern of the rug. The wall decor doesn’t have to be flowers, it can be another design. I attempted to hightlight the colors in the rug and they happened to be in the picture. Remember, the rug is on the floor and the picture is on the wall or the tri-pod. I could have chosen another picture that picks up the colors in the rug, but I thought that this picture was great wall decor. I wanted the accent pillows to be in a subtle green and yellow-gold colors. These colors highlight the beauty of the rug and will do wonders to enhance the beauty of the room.

About Accent Pillows: (1) The pillows vary in texture. (2) The rich colors tend to create warmth, while the cooler colors freshen up a room. (3) They raise the comfort level of the living space. (4) They add coordinating color to the design mix. (5) They are often inexpensive and can be easily changed to accommodate the seasons and/or the change in style or design of the room.
