Pip Rm 013
I thought I’d show you a few more details in this room.

In my space plans (Feb. 08) for this room, I drew a chair to place in this corner of the room. Thinking, if we found something similar, that would be fine. The Mom was able to find the same Louis XVI oval back chair, as in the plans, in a model home resale store. It had a brown stained wood frame and covered in a neutral fabric. Of course, that would not “fly” in this room.

So, I sanded, primed and painted the frame in the hot pink, and had the seat and back recovered in the black and white dots. The carved rosette/flower detail, at the top of the legs was enhanced with B/W paint. (details). The boa adds a bit of fun. The classic French chair took on a whole new personality with it’s lively remake, and looks right at home in this setting.

collage112Here’s the chair transformation process… sand, prime, paint, clear polyurathane, upholster.

collage1 1 1 2A closer look at some of the elements in the room. (I always like to see the details).

The three previous posts (New Room for a Young Lady, part 1, 2 and 3) show my design process. From space plans to the small final details. It’s important to have a plan before you begin. Then you can, see the ‘big picture’, work within your budget, find furnishings easily and not waste time and money on mistakes.

Enjoy decorating your rooms! There’s nothing more satisfying and rewarding!

3. I am doing the same idea for my 12 year old daughter and I love what you’ve done. They have alot of the decor “black and white” damask in Marshalls, Ross and TJ Maxx. I love the combination with the strong pink or hot pink. I am planning to do the curtains, rug and art work in pink.

4. Hello Lou,

I bet your daughter will be so excited to get her new room. These are great colors and patterns for a young lady. Not too childish and not to old for her either. You’ll both have so much fun decorating the room.
Thanks for the sources for some of the materials. There are many places to find things, you just have to look. The pink curtains, rug and art will be a great addition and accent to the black and white damask.
Have a great time decorating and let us know how things turn out. I know you’ll both love the room.

5. I love this room. My daughter is 9 and we have been working on getting a similar design together. She likes purple and lime green, along with the black and white. We found two great comforter sets at Target, one was the damask black and white and the other was a zebra print. I think we’re going to go with the zebra print. I can’t wait to show her your design. I’m sure she will love it!!!

6. Hello Annette,

So glad you both like the room. Your ideas and colors sound wonderful.
I think the zebra print will look awesome. Kids love bright high contrast color, it’s fun, exciting and makes for a happy room to grown up in. You go for it and let me know how it all turns out.

Happy decorating!
