I was down by the beach in Orange County, Ca., and I thought I’d drive through my favorite beach house areas to see if anyone had decorated for the 4th of July. Lots of American flags were out (usually year round), and quite a few houses were displaying their patriotic pageantry. As I was gazing at this beautifully decorated home, camera clicking away, someone walked by and said, “Just wait a week or so if you really want to see fireworks!”
So, I guess I’ll have to come back to see more red, white and blue excitement.
These beautiful beach towns always seem to decorate decatently for holidays. It’s always so much fun to walk the picket fence lined streets and take in all the coastal charm and ambiance of these seaside enclaves. There’s a saying I saw on a porch sign. It said, “If you’re lucky enough to live at the beach, then you’re lucky enough.” So true! Any of these homes/cottages would be the perfect summer escape…but, for now, I’m content just to look, linger and lust.
We all can’t decorate to-the-hilt for the 4th of July. But we can show our colors and display our flag. Mine will be out…waving proudly “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
Happy 4th of July from (this) sea to (your) shining sea, and all points in between!
Do you have any fun or exciting things you like to do on the 4th? We’d love to hear.

2. I sure miss Orange County after having lived there for over 20 years. We used to gather at a home in Laguna where we could have an ocean view and watch 3 or 4 different fireworks displays at once. Back at my other home in VA, people gather in their boats and head to Yorktown Beach to raft up, eat dinner and watch the fireworks from the water. The moonlit ride home is fun, too!

3. I live in Avalon Park. A neoclassical neighborhood in Orlando Florida. We have front porches in our homes and I for one love to decorate for every holiday. Right now my front porch is adorned with white wicker chairs, bunting from all four sides of my porch, flag pillows on my chairs,an American flag, a windsock in red white and blue,an American flag wooden welcome sign, and small flags in my flower bed. I notice people slowing down when they drive by (hopefully to admire). My son in law is in the Navy so I do it for him and just for the love of it. We also have a hugh 4th celebration in our downtown park with fireworks, pie bakeoffs and loads of activities for young and old. The fireworks are spectacular and give Disney World a run for their money. Needless to say we get people visiting from everywhere. I suggest this year will be even busier as Cocoa Beach on the Spacecoast has decided not to do fireworks. Happy 4th of July to all.
P.S. Avalon Park is also in Orange County.

4. Is this house on the island?
I’m sitting in humid New York and LOVE seeing your pictures. I think I recognize the area and oh, do I wish I was there.
Thanks for sharing!

5. Thank you Julie,
I do feel truly blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the country. I never get tired of exploring the coastal areas. Whenever I need a little get away, even for a few hours, the beach is where I head…it’s always revitalizing… a mini vacation…just right!
Wish you could join me, you’d love it!

6. Hello Charity,
I’m sure you do miss Laguna Beach. It’s favorite of mine as well. It’s as wonderful as ever. Do you get back much? Yes, the firework displays over the ocean are fantastic. All up and down the coast. At your Virginia home, sounds like you have a great 4th as well. What fun activities you do there also. It’s a great holiday, no matter where you live, it’s great to be with family and friends and celebrate our wonderful country.
Have a Super-Duper 4th!

7. Hello Ana,
So glad you’re from the O.C…in Florida! Ohhh your house sounds so beautiful, all decorated in red, white and blue. You’ve gone all out to “show your colors”! I wish I could see all you’ve done. It sounds perfect. I know you and your family are enjoying it and all the people that drive by are excited to see your display. Your town sounds like it goes all out to celebrate the 4th. Yes, watch out Disney World! You live in a beautiful area as well. My parents lived in Orlando for a while.
Thanks so much for telling us about your 4th festivities and all the decorating you’ve done, I enjoyed it so much.
Happy 4th to you all.

8. Hi there Heather,
Yes, this house is on Balboa Island. LOVE that place!!! You have a good memory of the area. Every single house and cottage there is adorable, as you can remember. New York is wonderful, even with humidity. Your’re right, we don’t have humidity like the East coast. The weather is hard to beat here. I hope you have a great 4th of July with your family and friends. Thanks so much for coming back to visit, even if it’s only online. Great to hear from you!
Enjoy your holiday!
