I’m always looking for easy and inexpensive ways to dress-up things I already have for holidays.

It seems we all have a bunch of these white plastic stacking chairs we use for extra seating for casual get togethers. I have at least 6 of these. I wanted to add some temporary color to them for a 4th of July bar-b-que.

I noticed they have cut out slats on the seat and backs, and thought how easy it would be to weave some ribbon or felt though them. I decided on the felt. It’s super cheap and you can cut it to the size you want. Depending on the size of the slats in your chairs, cut strips in the same width to weave. Mine were 2″ wide and long enough to weave across. I glue-gunned the ends right to the chair and cut off the excess. They hold up well and stay -put. When the holiday is over, they easily come off, as well as the glue. This idea could be used for other celebrations as well…birthdays, casual weddings/showers, bar-b ques, luaus, etc. Just change the felt colors to your occasion colors.
These were very easy to do and gives a temporary patriotic punch of color to plain plastic chairs.

4th of July Here are a few more pictures I took down by the beach a few days ago. I loved all the Red, White and Blue everywhere. I was so proud to see how many people displayed their colors.

I don’t know about you, but I’m an old softy when I see the flag and hear patriotic music. A tear or two will be shed…all in the name of Freedom.

Have a wonderful 4th of July!

2. Hello Julie,

No, ideas “trickle” out once in a while. LOL. Mainly I’m motivated by how cheap and how easy can I get things to work and still give me the look I want with the stuff I already have. This one was fun and will add lots of festive “Fourth” color to the get -together I think.
Let me know if you give this a try. Or if you can come up with any other ideas to decorate these non descript chairs.

Enjoy your 4th of July as well.

4. You are creative Janice!
Look at all you’ve done on your house. Yep, drag those old chairs out and give ‘em some color. It’s great fun to see what you can come up with in a pinch.
Have a fun holiday with family and friends.
