With all of this Summer’s conversation about vacations, I have been thinking about some of the various destinations I would like to visit someday. One of those locales is Africa, I would love to go on a Safari. I know it’s hard to imagine – this girl who believes that every room should have a candle and a cozy throw would abandon it all to spend a few days chasing around some lions and tigers and giraffes. Oh my!
I am quite sure that it is going to be a few years before I am able to go on this adventure, so I started thinking about some possible ways to bring the safari experience home. One possibility would be with these fabulous dishes I found. I love them!
Then I started exploring the world wide web!
I found this photo at a fabulous site called Normal Room. It is a picture of a typical kitchen in Burkina Faso, Africa. I so enjoyed the opportunity to see pics of ordinary rooms from all over the world. It is like taking a mini vacation on your PC. I also like the fact that they are not staged elaborate travel photos, but they are of rooms where families live. There is a realness about this site!
Another site that I had lots of fun exploring is Marie’s Manor. This site shows a plethora of ideas for bedrooms, most of them for children. My favorite page was the one which offered many design ideas of ways to decorate a safari bedroom.
So, have some fun! Where do you dream of visiting? And if you can’t travel in the near future – how might you bring the feel of your dream destination home?
1. The “wildness” of this safari theme would work well in my entire house with all the boys.
But seriously, maybe our new master bedroom will borrow this safari theme! I love it!

3. Amanda, I am glad you like the Safari theme. I think it would work great in a master bedroom or in your boys rooms.
Hi Denise, I hope the links added to this post helped to give you some additional ideas. I was amazed at all of the international themed rooms that can be copied. It seems like alot of fun and not difficult to do. Enjoy your new home.

7. Hi Doreen,
I must begin by saying that I am just a little envious. I would love to go on Safari. To answer your question, I found the plates at our HomeGoods store in Kirkwood, MO. I must say that I don’t know what is available at the various stores, but I would recommend calling the stores in your area and asking the folks there. I will add though, that I highly recommend just going in and taking the time to check things out. The Global Decorating Event began yesterday, and the international flair is fabulous.
