Inspiration can be carefully calculated, or it can simply come out of nowhere! When you want to (re)decorate a room, how do you decide on color, style, and key design elements?
Here’s another way to look at it…is did you redecorate a room because you intended to, or did you get inspired by something that made you want to do it? (Sort of a chicken or the egg thing!)
Here are some ways to find inspiration (or let it find you):
Home magazines
Piece of art (either professional, or something your kid drew)
A rug or piece furniture that you cherish
Nature or a particular season
Lifestyle or emotion (such as a serene spa, or lively laundry room)
A movie or tv show
A poem or story
A treasured family heirloom or collection
A favorite vacation
A country or region
A favorite store
A piece of fabric
A dream
Think about the last room you decorated (or redecorated). What motivated you? What served as your inspiration?
1. Is this the store that used to be TJ Max in the strip mall at University & Orchard? Did you change the name of the store or is it a completely different company? Thanks!

2. Last week I was on a hunt for pumpkin colored curtains! And I am sure it was all of the fall decorating that I have been doing and researching online that inspired me to choose that color. I found the exact curtains that I invisioned (how often does that ever happen?) at one of your sister stores.

6. Bella – sounds like it was meant to be! Whenever I envision something specific, I often find myself going down a different path as I find more inspiration sources! I love pumpkin – it’s great just as an accent color for pop, or part of a core palate!

7. I wanted to redo our master bedroom so the first thing I did was look for a bedspread to inspire me. I found a beautiful satin stripped quilt in the colors I love…pale blue, seafoam green, off white…very serene and just what I wanted for the feel of the room. Picked out paint from one of the colors in the spread, hung sheer panels (2 colors) on the windows, for a breezy feel…got lots of pillows, flowers, candles, pictures etc and Voila! A very seaside, serene bedroom that my husband and I love! All from the inspirational quilt….I love decorating!

8. I also find that if you have good solid pieces that are comfortable for your home and you that changing accessories from season to season or holiday can really make a house a home.

9. Whenever I need to pull a themed party or occassion together I just brouse through the aisles of TJ Maxx, Homegoods and/or Marshalls and sure enough I find the perfect item(s) at a fraction of the cost at any other store! I usually pick up items for muliple purpose which carries me through several holidays and parties. Just think a little… could that friut bowl from holiday be transformed into a garden tabletop for Easter? I just LOVE TJ’s, Marshall’s and Homegoods!
