This is probably the one and only time I will reveal what a “messy,” I can be! I hope I am making you feel better about yourselves. LOL

The truth is, I just finished a major writing project that I have been working on for a very long time. Now you might think that with all of that time spent in my office, I would want a neat and organized environment. I do, I do!

I simply get so focused on a project that when I finally find a few free moments, I definitely do not want to spend them in the work zone.

Yesterday, after sending the final product off and ordering a proof copy, I headed out to find a couple of little things to brighten my office space. Promising myself that I would begin cleaning and organizing as soon as I returned home.

I rewarded myself with the purchase of this rug and pillow. (For a better look, click on the photo to enlarge it.) I love the rug, and have never seen one like it before. It has a mix of pattern and braiding, and on top of it all was exactly the colors I wanted. Yippee!

As you can tell, I still have some serious work to do around my desk. However, that will wait for another day. I need to fly Joan in for a visit!! For today, I am going to enjoy the progress, know that tomorrow is another day, and rejoice that I won’t be spending every minute at my computer for the next few days.

Tell us about the “works in progress” going on at your house.

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Hi Deb:
You’re so brave to share your “mess” with the world. We all have them. I just came back from a warehouse book sale and my desk is littered with books that need to be allocated to various folks for Christmas/birthday gifts. Great idea to use a decorative rug as both inspiration for tidying up and a reward for doing so. I’d love to some help you clean up that desk but St. Louis is a LONG way from Boston. LOL We are working on redoing our home office so I’ll be posting on office organization soon. Stay tuned.

2. Hi Deb,

Did you finally get your childrens book done? How exciting! Let us know more about it. You’ll have to let us know where and when we can buy it. I’m so excited and proud of you. Congradulations and don’t worry about that messy office, mine looks just like that…maybe worse LOL.
We just get lost in that creative process and nothing else matters! HA.

Much success with the book!

3. On a whim, I started tearing the wallpaper down in my kitchen 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately in one area, there are 3 layers of wallpaper and some primer and glue mixed in, just for fun. My husband also started working 7 days a week on a project at work, at the same time…so for now, I have lots of paint chip colors taped up to 1 wall and ugly walls everywhere else…sure hope to get it done within the next month, there’s only so much ‘ugly’ I can take ;)

5. I know what you mean about leaving the little things and getting the big project done. You should think about getting some new chairs in that room now that you have cleaned up. Just a thought…..Home Goods has some really updated chairs & accessories.

6. Wow, thanks to you all for sharing your thoughts and comments.

It is pretty scary to lay it all out there, but I was hoping that I wouldn’t be alone. Thankfully, you all jumped right in to encourage me.

Joan, I can’t wait for your additional organizing tips, I definitely need them to clean up around my desk. I am one of those people who tends to believe, “out of siight, out of mind.” LOL

Yes Cathy, the book is finished, I hope. I am waiting for my proof to arrive anyday. I will post it to http://countingmyblessings.typepad.com as it is ready for sale.

Bella, Simone, and Barbara thanks for your thoughts. I probably will keep these chairs for the time being, they are my comfort chairs to curl up and read a good book – at least when I find the time. Projects sometime happen a little bit at a time. Sometimes it is in the little things that I find the biggest boost to my morale.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to stop by, visit, and share.

7. What a big difference some little changes make! Looks wonderful. And I say keep the chairs- they look new! And so comfy! Wish I had some just like them! Everything looks great.

8. Thank you Mona,

The chairs are relatively new, and they are so comfy . . . providing a great place to curl up on those nights when I have a little trouble sleeping. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I am always amazed at what can be accomplished by a small change and a little time.

9. You are a brave one to show your mess. I feel more at home if there is a little clutter. Everything in it’s place makes me feel uncomfortable.
It should look lived in. Good luck with your book.

10. Thanks Sue,

I am a strong believer in honesty, but you’re right this one took courage. I am so thankful to everyone who has encouraged me and let me know that I am not alone with my moments of messiness. Thanks again!!

11. My husband and I have chairs like yours in our family room. We love them. They are perfect to relax and watch TV in, because they are so comfortable. It is almost like you are floating they are so soft. Our family room is for comfort and enjoyment. We have the TV and games in there plus his computer and desk.

Everyone should have a comfortable chair to watch tv and read in and a comforable bed to sleep in. These things makes a house a home.

12. Thanks Jo for your words of encouragement. You have no idea how many nights I have curled up on one of those chairs-when I can’t seem to get comfortable in bed. They have even seen a quick afternoon nap. I agree completely, we are so very busy-that having a place designated for rest and relaxation is essential.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit, and for your kind input.
