I found a wonderful autumn display at a hotel in Orlando, Florida. They had several simple glass vases placed around a large round table in the hotel lobby. I immediately decided to bring this idea home to my small space albeit on a slightly smaller scale.
I love the simplicity of a single container that can be changed up every season with edible or disposable decorations. No storage required. In a small space, that’s important. And for those with a larger home to decorate, it’s also an inexpensive way to add a seasonal touch to any room. Of course the key is to find a container that blends with your home decor, but once you’ve found your ideal display container, the rest is simple.

I love the little gourds and pumpkins and that’s my choice for display this month, but the corn could be a nice touch for November. I’ve been thinking about pine-cones as well or chestnuts or a small bouquet of wheat. Cranberries for Christmas or sprigs of holly or… oh, lemons and limes for summertime or sand and shells or rocks from the beach….
What else would you put inside to make a stunning seasonal display?
1. This is one of those ideas that makes so much sense I think, why didn’t I think of that. Thanks for sharing, I love the idea. I have trees with acorns so I think I will use acorns for a few weeks. Thank you

2. I’ve seen vases like this with popcorn, cranberries and peppermint sticks for Christmas holidays. Also candy corn or small apples with cinnamon sticks for Halloween or Fall.
For non-edible decorations, metallic Christmas ornaments or sparkly garland with battery operated fairy lights (a small strand with the battery case at the bottom hidden in the garland.) Black feather boa with glittery accents for New Years Eve.
Oh the ideas are just endless and I’ve only gotten started! LOL!
Love the vase idea – I am going to look for a nice one in town tomorrow!

3. Hi Joan,
LOVE this idea! This year I’m going to use 3 apothocary jars with those spikey frog plant holders at the bottom of each (I don’t know what they’re called, obviously). Then I’ll make 3 cards, each w/a letter on them B-O-O and place them on the mantel. I saw this idea last year, but too late for Halloween. I’ll post a picture once I figure out the details! LOL

4. Marilyn: Always lovely to hear from another professional organizer. I grew up in a neighborhood littered with acorns so I’m quite envious of your fall container plans. I bet you your friends will soon be thinking the same thing you did, “now why didn’t I think of that” — enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

5. Katherine:
Wow, you are full of great ideas and your container will be full of them to I can see. Love the feather boa idea — that got me thinking of peacock feathers….hmmm. And the battery operated lights sound very festive. What a great idea for making use of those crab apples…wow, you’ve got me thinking. Thanks,
joan

6. Hi Susan:
Apothecary jars sound like a great “container” for some decor and your halloween display sounds intriguing. Hope you’ll share it on a post so everyone can enjoy.
Oh, and to all you ladies, please send pics of your favorite containers filled with your favorite display. It’d be so fun to see what you’ve all done. And plenty of room for more ideas for either containers or their fillings!!
