Like a lot of people, I love collecting. I prefer my collections to be things that are useful as well as beautiful. Dishes and serving pieces really fit well into this category for me since I love to entertain. It’s so much fun to be able to mix and match dishes to create new looks for different occasions. I think that having (at least) one good set of white dishes should be a requirement for every home. With that neutral base, the table settings you can create are endless. These are three looks I was able to create for my fall table from dishes I’ve been collecting.

Using 2 patterns and 2 different solid colors, I am able to mix and match to my hearts content. The key is buying dishes in different sizes to make the layering more interesting. You can easily and inexpensively buy salad plates and small bowls to mix with your everyday white dishes to give you a new look while celebrating the upcoming holidays.

It’s easy to find fun colors and patterns at garage sales, thrift stores and places like HomeGoods. I’m always picking up transferware dishes there to use for my table as well as for wall art (that can be removed from the wall and on the table in a pinch). Look through your cabinets and see how you can mix it up to create a whole new look for your table!

2. I discovered matching (2 with saucers) coca cups or spot of tea cups in Homegoods, Poughkeepsie, NY called Porcelain Treasurers, Hand decorated by Betty Platner, very antique shape with flower design, white porcelain background. Love to find more. Also, Grace Bone China Imported from Coastline Imports called Iceberg or White Rose. When I blogged previously, the dishes showed up in Poughkeepsie and Kingston, NY Stores. Much appreciated, thank you.
