By now, you’re nearly halfway through the organizing process in your kitchen. If you are not saying “out with the old”, then, let’s say “out with the unused!” You’ve surveyed your cooking equipment, and whether your home is small or large, I hope my tips have been helpful. Remember, in small homes, it’s important to look in the closets, the basements, and those odd areas where one finds the odd pieces of overflow cookware. So, don’t forget to look high and low, especially in smaller homes, and document your findings in your cookware image album.

You’ll want to begin to make notes somewhere, on paper or in your computer, of what you need to stock up on (I’m wild about backpackit!) You can make lists with check boxes next to them, print them out and be super organized. OR, you can refer to your lists while in a store via your pda, either way. It’s so convenient to be able to just pick up that one piece you need and not have to buy a whole set of new cookware…that’s an efficient and money saving way to shop. If you have organized your recipes you have selected for entertaining, noting that you need a new vegetable steamer or stock pot, as you go along, you’ll be able to stick to your list, knowing what you really need is on there…until you see all those choices!

What’s shopping for your entertaining events without looking for a few little luxuries? For me, it’s an important part of the process. Last minute inspirations of food items such as spices, or beverage mixes, or colorful pasta is useful, but most of all, just a little bit different than the norm, and definitely festive. Inspiration is really the word. Take that thought, and expand or embellish on your original idea and make it better. Nothing wrong with a few little luxuries! My feeling is, hey, I’m doing all of this creating, planning, working, I deserve a little something special.

Whether it’s a few new candles, vases for my flowers, or another decorative item that just calls to me, my entire mood brightens as my new item becomes part of my vision for my entertaining theme. And, that’s fun.

2. Hi Ruth,

Thanks for submitting a comment to Openhouse, the new HomeGoods blog.

We understand that you have been trying to locate Channukah items. As an off price retailer, we make every effort to keep our prices low, and our costs down, so that we can pass these savings on to our customers. For this reason, we do not provide a service of tracking merchandise, In addition, we do not have the privilege of ordering specific merchandise from our vendors. To locate the Channukah items, we suggest that you continue to check with the stores in your area directly. We would be happy to provide you with store locations in your area. 3. Hi Ruth, anecdotally, I was in my local store last week and saw lots of winter-focused/seasonal new items. I didn’t specifically look for Channukah items, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were already out. But, to be sure, you could also fill in your zip code at the top right of the home page and call your local store, the phone numbers come right up. http://www.homegoods.com/index.asp
